1857 David Hoover and Susannah Rohrer were married on September 24, in Elkhart County, Indiana by Isaac Wisler. [1]

1860 David Hoover (age 30, born in Ohio) lived in Harrison Twp, Elkhart County, Indiana, in a household with Susanna Hoover (age 21), Mary Hoover (age 2), and Catharine Miller (age 19). [2] [3]

1870 David Hoover (age 40, born in Ohio) lived in Harrison Twp, Elkhart County, Indiana, in a household with Susan Hoover (age 31), Mary Hoover (age 12), Samuel Hoover (age 10, born in Indiana), and Isaac May (age 21). David Hoover was a farmer. [4] [5]

1880 Susanah Hoover (age 41, born in Ohio, married), wife, lived in Harrison Twp, Elkhart County, Indiana, in a household with David L. Hoover (age 50), Mary Blough (age 21), William Blough (age 34), Samuel Hoover (age 19), Noah Hoover (age 6), and Laura Blough (age 1). Susannah was sick with Dyspepsia. Susanah Hoover's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. [6] [7]

1890 David Hoover lived at 605 Second as listed in the Elkhart, Indiana Directory for 1890. [8]

1900 Susan Hoover (born in Ohio in May 1841, married for 41 years), wife, lived in Harrison Twp, Elkhart County, Indiana, in a household with David L Hoover (age 70, born in Jan 1830). Susan Hoover's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. Susan Hoover had had 6 children, 3 still living. [9] [10]

1903 Noah R Hoover (1873-1903) died in 1903 and was buried at Yellow Creek Brick Cemetery Southwest, Elkhart County, Indiana. [11] [12]

1912 David L Hoover died on November 21 and was buried at Yellow Creek Brick Cemetery, Southwest, Elkhart County, Indiana. David L Hoover was born on February 25, 1830. [13] [14]

1912 An obituary for David Hoover reported [15]:

Hoover. - David L. Hoover was born in Columbiana County, Ohio, Feb. 20, 1830; died near Goshen, Indiana, Nov. 21, 1912; aged 82 y. 9 m. 1 d. He was the youngest of a family of 12 children and the last to answer the summons of death. Surviving him are his wife, 2 children, 13 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. He was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church. Services at the Yellow Creek M. H. by D. J. Johns, assisted by Jonas Loucks.

1934 Susanna Rohrer Hoover died on May 5 and was buried at Yellow Creek Brick Cemetery, Southwest, Elkhart County, Indiana. Susanna Rohrer Hoover was born on May 25, 1839. [16] [17]

1934 An obituary for Anna Rohrer Hoover reported [18]:

Hoover.-Susannah, daughter of Joseph and Mary Rohrer, was born in Stark County, Ohio, May 25, 1839; died at the home of her son (Samuel R. Hoover) in Wakarusa, Indiana, May 5, 1934; aged 94 y. 11 m. 10 d. At the age of 12 she moved with her parents in a covered wagon to Elkhart County, Indiana, and settled on the Rohrer homestead near Southwest. In 1857 she was united in marriage with David L. Hoover, who preceded her in death 21 years ago. To this union were born 6 children, 3 of whom died in infancy. One son (Noah R,) died 30 years ago at the age of 31. One daughter (Mrs. Mary Blough) died 15 years ago at the age of 62. One son (Samuel R.) the only surviving member of the family, resides in Wakarusa. There are also 11 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. Mother Hoover was the last of 9 children to answer the summons of death, and her husband was the last of 12 children when he passed away 21 years ago last November. In early life she united with the Mennonite Church and later became a follower of the Pentecostal faith. In her declining years she was in moderate health, until last August when she suffered a stroke from which she never fully recovered. Funeral services were held May 7 at the home, followed by further services at the Yellow Creek Mennonite Church, by Charles Wright assisted by Jonas Loucks.

1952 Samuel R Hoover, widowed, son of David L Hoover and Susanna Hoover, died, at age 91 on March 30, 1952, in Rural, Elkhart County, Indiana. Samuel R Hoover was born on August 4, 1860, in Indiana. [19]

A biosketch reported [20]:

David L. Hoover was born in Mahoning county, Ohio, February 20. 1830, and in addition to acquiring a thorough knowledge of farming in his youth, also learned the blacksmith's trade, at which he worked for many years. He came to Elkhart county when twenty-five years of age, and was married three years later to Susanna Rohrer, a daughter of Joseph and Mary (Ferry) Rohrer.

Mrs. Hoover was born in Medina county, Ohio, May 29, 1839, and after her marriage she settled with her husband on a farm in Harrison township, where he tilled the soil and worked at blacksmithing for ten years. He then bought the farm on which he now lives, and for the past thirty years has resided on the same. He has been successful in his business ventures, and has also been active in the political affairs of his section, being a stanch Republican. He has been a member of the Mennonite Church for a number of years, in fact, his career is one well worthy of emulation. He experienced the hardships of life in a new country, and although he was compelled to labor early and late for some time, his means gradually increased, and he is now in the enjoyment of a comfortable competency.

He and his wife have reared three children and lost two: Mary, born June 30, 1858. is the wife of William D. Blough. and has five children; Laura Belle, Rosy May, Aurilla M., David F. and Nelson; Samuel was born July 4, 1860, married Lucinda Curtis, are living on the old home farm, and have one child, Avilla; Amanda, born June 11, 1862, died at the age of three months; one died in infancy; and Noah who was born June 10, 1873, resides on the home farm. Mr. Hoover has been a successful stockraiser, as well as farmer, and commands an ample income.
