Notes for John Macky and Jane

1760 Thomas Macky was buried on May 24 at St. John at Hackney, Middlesex. [1] [Thomas, son of John Macky, was named in the will of his great uncle Patrick Macky, dated 9 July 1756, but not in the will of his uncle Robert Macky, dated 4 November 1771, suggesting that he died between these dates.]

1764 The will of John Mackey of Coleraine, co. Londonderry, Esq., was dated 7th August 1764 and proved 15th May 1765. Betham's abstract states that John mentioned daughter Jane, wife of Edmund Armstrong, son Robert, and daughter Elizabeth. [2]

1775 The will of Jane Macky of Coleraine, co. Londonderry, widow, was dated 14th January and proved 15th February. Betham's abstract states that Jane mentioned husband John Macky; grandson John, son of Patrick Macky; granddaughters Mary, Jane, and Elizabeth, daughters of Robert Macky of London; granddaughter Jane Maria North, daughter of Roger North Esq of Sommerseat, Kings County; daughter Elizabeth, wife of said Roger North. [3] [4]

1775 A notice, "Died at Coleraine, Mrs. Jane, relict of John Macky of Agivy, Co. Londonderry, age 71" was published on January 31 in the Londonderry Journal. [5]

Research Notes:

John Mackey is described in the will of Patrick Mackey, dated July 9, 1756 as "my Nephew John Macky of Agh Givey near Colerain in the County of Londonderry in the Kingdom of Ireland." [6] John's mother Jane Mackey bequeathed to "my Son John Macky of Agivey in the County of London Derry Ten Pounds Sterling" in her will dated April 2, 1763. [7] John's brother Robert Mackey mentioned "my Brother John Macky dec'ed" in his will dated November 14, 1771. [8] These are consistent with the John Mackey of Coleraine, co. Derry, whose will was proved in the Prerogative Court of Ireland in 1765, abstracted above. [9]
