We have found two plausible immigration records for Michael Hassler on the ship "Ann" or on the ship "Two Brothers". Most researchers report that he arrived on the ship "Ann".

1749 Michael Hassler, [Gassier] sailed from Rotterdam via Cowes, England on the Ship "Ann", captained by John Spurrier, arriving in Philadelphia on September 28, 1749. The passengers were from Basil, Wirtemburg, Zweybrecht, and Darmstad. Michael Hassler took the oath of allegiance at the courthouse in Philadelphia. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

1748 Michael Hesler arrived on the ship "Two Brothers" from Rotterdam. [7] [8]

1752 Christian Hassler, son of Michael Hassler, Reformed, and Margreta, Lutheran, was born on August 28, 1752 and was baptised on April 23, 1753 at St. Michael's and Zion Lutheran Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with sponsors Jacob and Maria Landgraf. [11] [12] Jacob Landgraf arrived on the Ship "Ann" with Michael Hassler in 1749. [13]

1761 Son Abraham Hassler was baptized at the First Reformed Church of Philadelphia. The records read: "Baptised October 4th, 1761, Abraham, son of Michael Hassler and wife Margreta. Godparents: Abraham Wild and his wife Anna Barbara." [14] [15] [16] [17] [18]

c 1761 Michael Hassler moved to York County, Pennsylvania and bought a farm of 126 acres in North Codorus Twp. No deed for that purchase has been found. The land is described in a deed dated August 30, 1781, when the oldest son Joseph sold four acres of it to his brother George. It adjoined "lands of Sebastian Harleman, Andrew Shettley [named in a survey of land that Michael warranted in 1772] and Michael Hassler, and the Great Road leading from York Town to Baltimore, … being a part of a larger tract of land containing by metes and bounds two hundred & sixteen acres & an half, whereof Michael Hassler, (father of the said George Hassler and Joseph Hassler) in his lifetime stood seized owner of and in the Possession thereof. And whereas the said Michael Hassler in and by his last Will and Testament in Writing bearing date the Fifth Day of February which was in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy four, duly proven and remaining in the Registers Office at York, amongst other things therein contained, did give and devise the aforesaid Tract of Land containing two hundred and sixteen acres and a half unto Joseph Hassler (party hereto) … " The larger tract was adjoining lands of Michael Neuman, Henry Sumeraur, David Grier, and others. 1770 Michael Hassler and Margaret were sponsors at the baptism of Jacob, son of Andrew and Eva Shedler, on July 3 at Wolf's Church, West Manchester, York County, Pennsylvania. [21] [22] [23]

1772 A warrant to Michael Hassler and request for survey for 200 acres in the Manor [Springettsbury], North Codorus Twp was dated May 21, 1772 and recorded in Philadelphia. The land was joining Michael Newman, Andrew Stettler, and Henry Summeraur in Codorus Twp, York County about six miles from the town of York. Michael Hassler signified his desire to purchase the land. 1774 "Michael Hassler dated his will on February 5th. It was in probate on March 24(?) in Codorus Twp, York County. Executor eldest son Joseph and wife Margret. Margaret was to hold all goods until "my youngest child arrive to the age of eighteen years". Children: eldest son Joseph, son Michael, son Christian, daughter Magdalena, son George, and son Abraham. Michael was a weaver. He wills one weaver's loom to his son Michael and one to his son George. According to his will his farm was not to be divided among his children until after his youngest son Abraham became eighteen years of age. Then the oldest son Joseph was to receive 150 acres, and the second son Michael 60 acres. The family continued living on the homestead property and bought adjoining property. They lived there for almost twenty years after their father's death. The sons were listed in the Revolution from York County. Their marriages and the baptisms of their children are to be found among the records of the First Reformed Church of York and of St. Paul's and Wolf's Church of Codorus Township." 1776 Grand-daughter Anna Maria Hassler, daughter of Joseph and Anna Maria Hassler, was born on April 9. She was baptized with sponsors Michael Hassler and Juliana Römer on 28 April, 1776 in York County, Pennsylvania. [42]

1783 Sons Joseph, Christian, George, Michael and Abraham Hassler were taxed in Codorus Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. [48] [49]

1784 Christian Hassler and Jacob Hassler were granted land by Thomas Armor Jr in Codorus Twp. Dated April 17. [50]

1785 A survey for land of David Grier was adjacent to land of Andrew Shetler. Perhaps this was near the land described in the 1793 deed of Joseph Hassler to Christian Slough and the land described in a 1772 warrant issued to Michael Hassler, and the land where Michael Hassler settled about 1761. Land of Peter Low was adjacent, perhaps the tract that Abraham Hosler (relationship unknown) purchased (See Research Notes, below). [51]

1793 Joseph Hassler, wagonmaker, and his wife Anna Maria, of Codorus Twp, York County, sold land to Christian Slough, Northampton County. The land had been owned by Michael Hassler, late of Codorus Twp, deceased. Michael bequeathed land to Joseph Hassler in his will, which was dated February 5, 1774. The land was adjacent to lands of Michale Neuman, Henry Sumeraur, David Grier Esq, Andrew Shetler, and others. Witnessed by Abraham Miller and John Doll Jr. Deed dated April 8. [52]

Research Notes:

The name Andrew Shettley/Shedler/Shetler/Stettler appears in these records. Perhaps this is a family name for Margretta.

1752 Peter Low received a warrant, dated May 11, for a tract of land in North Codorus Twp, York County. [53] The tract was subdivided and patented by several persons, one of whom was Abraham Hosler, who received a patent for 6.63 acres on April 27, 1872. [54] He requested a survey on March 30, 1872, which showed the land was then adjacent to lands of Jacob Hershey, Jacob Glatfelter, and John Emig (surveyed more than 100 years after Peter Low's warrant). [55] A survey for John Appleman showed the tract of A.C. Hosler adjacent to Appleman, Ephraim Glatfelter, and Jacob Hershey. [56] [57] A survey made in 1839 suggested that the Hassler tract had become part of a tract owned by Glatfelter. [58] We seek information about the relationship, if any, between Michael Hassler and this Abraham Hosler. Note that Michael's daughter Magdalena, married John George Lau, who other researchers name as a son of Peter Low.

1754 Michael Hassler paid taxes in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County, near Philadelphia County. [Historical Society of Pennsylvania, Gilbert Cope Collection, Chester County Tax Assessments][59]

1762 Michael Hesler received a warrant for land in Shrewsbury Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. Dated July 15. [60] [61] [62] A survey was made on April 22, 1766 for Michael Hessler. [63] A patent was granted to John Zorger on June 5, 1810. [64]

Michael and Margretta Hassler were the parents of several sons who fought in the American Revolution. Both Joseph and Abraham have been named in applications fors Son of the American Revolution. [65] [66] [67] [68] [69] [70] [71] [72] [73]

We seek documentation about the parents of Michael Hassler:

Some researchers name Michael Hassler [74], born 1681 in Walkringen, Bern, Switzerland, and Magdalena Kormen as the parents of this Michael Hassler. We seek evidence about the parents of this Michael Hassler.

Hundreds of undocumented trees at Ancestry.com report that this Michael Hassler, son of Hanss Jacob Hessler (1698-?) and Elisabeth Brandt (1703-1730), was born on July 30, 1726, at Walkringen, Bern, Switzerland. The parish records for Walkingren have no record of his birth on this date. [75] They cite parish records of Tuttlingen, Württemberg, Germany as documentation for this possibility. The parish records of Tuttlingen record a birth in Tuttlingen, not Walkingren. [76] [77]

"Elsbeth Hossler, daughter of Michael Hassler of Walkringen and Magdalena Kormen of Bumplitz, born in Bern (City of Bern) April 24, 1718." [78]

A biosketch reports [79]:

It was probable that Michael's father left Walkringen at an earlier date and that our Michael was not born in Walkringen. There was a tradition that the family lived in Alsace near the city of Strasbourg, and that our Michael was born there. It was probable that he married his wife Margreta before sailing to America. The baptismal record of his third son found in Philadelphia states that Michael was Reformed and Margreta was Lutheran. As there were comparatively very few Lutherans in Switzerland, it is more likely that Margreta was from Alsace or some part of Germany and not from Switzerland. The people of Alsace were of German origin, having a dialect of their own and were not generally of aily French mixture. The spellings Michel and Mihel were used in France, but do not necessarily indicate that Michael came from Alsace. They can also be an abbreviated way of spelling Michael. The passenger list of the Ship Ann states that the company on the ship was made up of persons who came from the district between Basel and Darmstadt, which would include Alsace.

"There is a family tradition that they lived where Wanamaker's store is now situated in Philadelphia, but no actual record can be found to that effect. There are also records that the son Joseph was born in Philadelphia County, and that the son George was born in Merion Twp of Philadelphia County." [80]
