Ulmet Flurskapelle
Flurskapelle (The Field Chapel)
near Rathsweiler and Ulmet,
Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

The parish church of Ulmet is one of the oldest churches of the middle Glan River Valley region. It has been known by the name "Flurskapelle" (Field Chapel) for several centuries. Many parts of it have been rebuilt over the years. The original church was built around the year 1091, but only the early Roman stile tower of that church survives today. This four story tower tapers upwards and has four span ceilings. The three lower levels show slotted holes, which was a significant characteristic of 11th century architecture. Instead of slotted holes, the top level has double windows with round columns. The 27 meter high tower has an octagonal vaulted roof. The Thirty Years War came to Flurskapelle. On May 25, 1632, Rhine Count Otto Ludwig defeated the Spaniards in a crushing victory. Three years after the battle imperial troops plundered and burned the village of Ulmet including the parsonage. The church largely escaped the plundering. The church was rebuilt. The original tower was kept, but the rest of the church was reconstructed. The foundation stone for the new church, which is still standing today, was put in place at noon on July 1, 1737. [3] [4]

1662 Peter Wolfe and Anna Margaretha, daughter of the late Nickel Korb of Rathsweiler, were married on February 11 at Ulmet. [5] [6] [7] Rathsweiler is in the parish of Ulmet in the district of Kusel in the Rhineland-Palatinate. The marriage record describes Peter as of the Landeck Court, from Klürs(?) in Tyrol. Both Landeck, Tyrol (in Austria) and this part of the Palatinate were governed by Bavaria during this era. [8] [9]

Research Notes:

The church records name the church as Ulmet, but the Flurskapelle was a field church (not in a city) somewhat closer to Rathsweiler than to Ulmet.

We have found no confirmation records for either Anna Barbara or Philip. Perhaps they died young.

1732 Antres Wolff, age 26, arrived in Philadelphia on the ship Pink Plaisance. [25]
