Joseph Hinson's father could be Robert Hanson, as shown here. No evidence is known, other than coincidence of residence and time. Another researcher has named George and Elinor Hanson as parents.
1679 Charles Hoyle's will, dated 10 April 1679, granted 900 acres in Stafford County, Virginia to daughter Elizabeth Hanson, proved in Stafford court on 9 September 1695. Inquiry about land ownership, dated 1728, mentions Elizabeth's son, Edmond Hanson.
Land in Stafford County, Virginia was assigned by John Rosier to Charles Wood (relation unknown, but perhaps related to Wood, father-in-law of brother Alexander) who gave it by will to Joseph Hinson of Stafford Co, who then sold the land to Thomas Elsey.
1689 On 9 December, Joseph Hinson won a lawsuit against John Peale-Stafford Co Va (source not seen).
1694 On 16 March, Joseph Hinson [Henson] had a grant of 391 acres in Stafford County, VA 391 acres beginning upon the cliff by the run side. Margaret Lady Culpepper and Thomas Lord Fairfax were named. (Northern Neck VA Grants, Book 2, p 140 reported in Genealogical Notes on the South Family, page 80 and Library of Virginia online images of land office grants).
1694 On 2 October, Joseph Hinson [Henson] had a grant of 195 acres in Stafford County upon the north side of the Main Run of Potomack Creek, beginning at the mouth of the Reedy Branch adjoining Theoderick Bland, and Thomas Meridith. (Northern Neck VA Grants, Book 2, p 4 reported in Genealogical Notes on the South Family, page 80).
The following note is dated after the undocumented date of death of this Joseph Hinson.
1706 To all Christian People Know ye that I, Joseph Hinson of parish Overwharton in county Stafford ... for full sum 17,000 pounds of good Tobacco by me already received of Thomas Ellzie of the parish Overwharton in county aforesaid .. sell 300 acres of land lying on North side Potomack Creek it being the lowermost part of a parcel of land containing 600 acres formerly granted unto Edward Rogers as by Patent bearing date the 14th day October 1665 will more at large appear the land joining unto the land of Charles Wood & extending up the said Creek side to the land of Mathews & so into the main woods for to contain the said 300 acres .. 6th March 1706. Presence Mary Ballard, Joseph Hinson, Thos. Ballard. At a Court held 12th March 1706 This deed of sale was acknowledged by Jos. Hinson in person unto Thos. Elzey & Margaret Hinson in her on proper person relinquished her right of dower to the same which is ordered to be recorded and is recorded. [1] [2]
