1773 Jacob Balsle died and gave land to two of his sons Joseph and Henry Baltzly in his will dated May 3, 1773, as described in a deed dated 1785. [1] [2]

1777 Joseph Baltzley, perhaps this one, was a Second Lieutenant in the Company of Captain Peter Zollinger, of the Seventh Battalion of York County. [3]

1778 Joseph Baltzer was a Second Lieutenant in Captain Peter Solinger's Fourth Company, Seventh Battalion, York County Militia on April 5. [4] [5]

1778 Joseph Baltzley was named and crossed out on the tax list in Paradise Twp, York County. [6]

1779 Joseph Balsly was taxed 11 pounds 5 shillings for 50 acres in Paradise Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. [7] [8] [9] [10]

1780 Joseph Balsley was taxed 10 pounds in Paradise Twp, York County, Pennsylvania as a young man. [11]

Joseph Baltzly, a farmer, married Elizabeth, daughter of Michael Bittinger. They owned land in Paradise Twp, York County, Pennsylvania where they lived and in Berwick Twp, Adams County, Pennsylvania. [12] [13]

1781 Joseph Balsly was taxed 17 pound 6 shillings for 50 acres in Paradise Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. [14]

1782 Joseph Balsly was taxed 4 pound 11 shillings 7 pence for 50 acres in Paradise Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. [15] [16]

1783-90 Joseph Baltzley was listed in the 8th Company, 7th battalion (sergeant Jacob Noll), Berwick Twp, York County, Pennsylvania.

1783 Joseph Baltzley was taxed in Paradise Twp, York County for 100 acres, 1 inhabitant. [17]

1785 Privates Samuel Meels, Joseph Baltzly, Frederick Wolf, and John Noll served with Lieut. Jonas Wolf in the 7th Battalion, eighth company, Captain Peter Ickes commanding. [18]

1785 Joseph Baltzly, for the estate of Jacob Baltzly, sold land in Paradise Twp, York County, to Jacob Doll. Nicholas Noel had sold the land to Jacob Balsle on May 27, 1767. Jacob Balsle died and gave the land to two of his sons Joseph and Henry Baltzly in his will dated May 3, 1773. Henry sold his share of the land to Joseph on February b15, 1783. [19] [20]

1786 Jacob Balsley, son of Joseph and Elizabeth Balsely, was born on December 24. He was baptized on February 25, 1787, with witnesses Henry Herman and Maria, at the Emanuel Reformed Church, Abbotstown, Adams County, Pennsylvania. [21] [22]

1786 Joseph Baltzly was listed on the Paradise Twp, York County, septennial census. [23]

1788 Elizabeth Balser was born on November 22. She was baptized on February 15, 1789, with witnesses Jacob and Elizabeth Hamm at the Emanuel Reformed Church, Abbotstown, Adams County, Pennsylvania. [24] [25]

1790 Joseph Baltzley lived in Paradise Twp, York County, Pennsylvania, in a household with 2 males under age 16, 1 males age 16 and over, and 2 females. [26]

1791 Son Joseph was born on June 2. He was baptized on August 14, with witnesses John and Elizabeth Hamm at the Abbottstown Reformed Church, Adams County, Pennsylvania. [27]

1792 Daughter Susanna was born on December 22. She was baptized on February 10, with witnesses George Michael and Elizabeth Bittinger at the Abbottstown Reformed Church, Adams County, Pennsylvania. [28]

1793 Joseph Balsley was listed on the septennial census for Paradise Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. [29]

1797 Daughter Salome Paltzy was born on May 6. She was baptized on September 3, at the Abbottstown Reformed Church, Adams County, Pennsylvania. [30]

1798 Joseph Baltzly was listed in Paradise Twp, York County, adjacent to Henry Herman, on the Pennsylvania U.S. direct tax. [31] [32] [33] [34]

1800 Joseph Balsley, farmer, was listed on the septennial census for Paradise Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. [35]

1800 Jos Balsley lived in Paradise Twp, York County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 1 (under 10), 1 (10 thru 15), and 1 (45 and over); and females: 3 (under 10), 1 (10 thru 15), and 1 (26 thru 44). [36]

1810 Joseph Battzle lived in Paradise Twp, York County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 2 (16 thru 25) and 1 (45 and over); and females: 1 (under 10), 2 (10 thru 15), 1 (16 thru 25), and 1 (45 and over). [37]

1815 Jacob Balsley, oldest son of Joseph Balsley, deceased late of Adams County, petitioned, on December 26, that Joseph had died intestate leaving widow Elisabeth and children Jacob, Joseph, and Elisabeth of full age, and minor children Susanna married to Stephen Kepner, and Sally, Mary, and Charlotte, under age. Joseph died with 214 acres of land in Berwick Twp, Adams County adjacent to land of Samuel Baugher, Nicholas Marshall, and others. [38]

1816 Joseph Baltzley died at age 63 and was buried at Emanuel Reformed Cemetery, Abbotstown, Pennsylvania. [39] [40] [41]

1816 The sheriff found that the lot should not be divided on February 20. [42]
They sold the land. [43] The land was sold to Adam Sowers. [44]

1820 Widow Elizebeth Balsly lived in Abbottstown Twp, Adams County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 1 (26 thru 44); and females: 2 (under 10) and 1 (16 thru 25). [45]

Research Notes:

The note below contradicts the estate records above, dated 1815, for Joseph Baltzly.

1816 Joseph Baltzly reportedly died on April 2, 1816 at age 63 in Paradise Township and was buried in Abbottstown, Adams County, Pennsylvania, Emanuel Reformed Church Cemetery. Cemetery records lists Joseph as 63 years old. The obituary notice appeared in the Adams County, Sentinel, October 16, 1816. The inscription on his grave marker reads, "In memory of Joseph Baltzley departed his life April 2, 1816 age 63-0-0". In 2005 the grave had a marker with a star which read, "Revolutionary War" and a flag next to his grave site. [46] [47]
