"The first of the Meals family in America was William Meals, the great-grandfather, who, with his wife Margaret, came from Germany, and settled in Tyrone Township, Adams' county, near Deal's Mills prior to the Revolution." [2]

1738-1812 Land of William Meals [Mehls] was adjacent to a tract owned by Finley McGrew in Tyrone Twp, Adams County. The original survey was made for Finley McGrew in 1738 and was divided for Nathan McGrew in 1812. William McGrew and William Sadler owned tracts adjacent to William Meals. 1783 Henry Schlebaugh (aged 18), Peter (age 16), and William (age 14), minor orphan children of Henry Schlebaugh late of Manallen Twp, deceased, chose William Meals of Tyrone Twp, as their guardian; dated June 17, at the York County Orphans Court. George Meals and Catharina Schlebaugh, administrators of the estate of Henry Schlebaugh, requested that Jacob Grenmeyer of Manallen Twp be appointed guardian for minor orphans Mary (age 11), John (age 4), and Elizabeth (age 1). 1820 Margretha Meihl, perhaps this one, born Aug. 5, 1749, died Mar. 20, 1820, was buried at Benders Lutheran Church Cemetery, Biglerville, Adams County, Pennsylvania. [24] [25]

1820 William Meals lived in Huntington Twp, Adams County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 2 (under 10), 1 (10 thru 15), 2 (26 thru 44), and 1 (45 and over); and females: 2 (under 10), 2 (10 thru 15), and 1 (26 thru 44). [26]

1833 William Meals died: "On 23rd (Nov), William Meals of Menallen, upwards of 80". [27] [28]

1833 William Meals was buried at Bender's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Butler Twp, Adams County, Pennsylvania. [29] [30] [31] The grave is listed as a Veteran's burial. [32]

Research Notes:

We are researching Samuel Meals and Maria Charlotte Gyloy [33]. Some researchers name them as the parents of this Wilhelm Meals. We seek evidence to clarify this possible relationship.
