Research Notes:

We are researching Jacob Meals, married to Elizabeth Bender. Several researchers have named Samuel Meals, married to Charlotte Gyloy, as the parents of Jacob. Several of the notes above pertain to Samuel Meals, blacksmith, married to Margaretha, who owned land in Dover twp and Paradise Twp, York County as late as 1791 These notes might refer to son Samuel. Adams County was formed from York County on January 22, 1800.

We have no direct evidence that all of the children shown here were children of this couple. We have seen reports of baptismal records for children of this couple, but have found documentation for only those noted above for the three children born in Merxheim. Some researchers name Wilhelm Meals (1745) [22] as a son of this couple.

1693 Who was Samuel Meals, on the Philadelphia tax list? [23] [24]

1745 Johann Wilhelm Mühl, son of Johann Adam? Mühlin and ? Sophia Dorothea sohnlein was born December 31, 1745 and was baptized January 3 at Merxheim. Sponsors Wilhelm Lorentz Mühl, ?, Johannes Schafer … allhier, Johannes … und jungfrau Johannetta. [25] [26] Some researchers (incorrectly?) show Johann Wilhelm as a son of this couple.

Merxheim is close to the Nahe River and the towns of Monzingen, Simmertal, Meddersheim, and Sobernheim, in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.

1782 Samuel Meals was taxed as a smith in Huntington Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. [27]
