Wendell and margaretha were married at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eschelbach. In the village of Eschelback, southeast of Heidelberg, Germany, the register (or Kirchenbuch) of the Evangelical Lutheran parish church begins in 1653 with a recording of the prior marriages and birth of children of the current members. Of the 25 marriages included in the new Kirchenbuch is the record that Wendel and Margretha were married in 1637. The dates recorded for their children are either the birth or baptism dates.
The ancestry of Wendell Bender is uncertain. Some have identified him as the same Wendell Bender of Neckar, Württemberg, Germany, born 17 Dec 1616.
