1850 Henry Bortner (age 64) and Margaret Bortner (age 56) lived in North Bloomfield Twp, Morrow County, Ohio with children Adam Bortner (age 25), Elis Bortner (age 24), Caroline Bortner (age 23), Jacob Bortner (age 19), John Bortner (age 17), Rebecca Bortner (age 13), and Joseph Bortner (age 8). Nearby was the family of Charles Bortner (age 33). [1]

1852 Henry Bortner acted as guardian for Jacob, John, and Margaret Bortner, heirs of Henry Bortner (perhaps son Henry, who died in 1844). James Bortner was also named.

1853 Henry Bortner and Margaret Bortner sold land in Section 34, Twp 19, Range 20 (Morrow County, Ohio) to Peter Falkner for $800. Dated December 8.

1857 Henry Bortner owned 80 acres in section 34, North Bloomfield Twp, Morrow County, Ohio. [2]

1860 Henry Bortner (age 73) and Margaret Bortner (age 63) lived in North Bloomfield Twp, Morrow County, Ohio with children John Bortner (age 22), Henry Bortner (age 16), Joseph Bortner (age 14), and Mary Koffman (age 14). Some of the children might be orphaned children of son Henry or other children. [3]

1870 Henry Bortner (age 83) and Margaret Bortner (age 73) lived in North Bloomfield Twp, Morrow County, Ohio with John Bortner (age 36), [4] [5]

1871 The will of Henry Bortner was produced in the Morrow County, Ohio probate court by the executors, Adam Bortner and John Bortner on May 23. John Crawford and J S Bortner, subscribing witnesses, also appeared. "I Henry Bortner of the County of Morrow and State of Ohio ...bequeath unto my beloved wife Margaret Bortner ... all that I own, ... bequeath to my son George Bortner five dollars ... balance of my property ... to be sold ... and divided among my children Lydia Misamore, Charles Bortner, Jonas Bortner, Sarah Huffman, Caroline Warner, Adam Bortner, Eli Bortner, Jacob Bortner, John Bortner, Margaret Garverick ... after the decease of my wife Margaret Bortner all the property that I have willed to her is to be equally divided among my above named heirs except George he is to have only the above named five dollars. ... Dated 14 March 1868." [6]

1871 Henry Bortner, farmer, died on June 9, at age 89, in North Bloomfield Twp, Morrow County, Ohio. [7] Henry Bortner was buried at the Bortner Cemetery, Morrow County, Ohio. [8]

1878 Margaret Bortner, wife of Henry Bortner, died on January 25, at age 83y 2m 3d and was buried at the Bortner Cemetery, Morrow County, Ohio. [9]

Research Notes:

Son George Bortner was not named in census records, so he might be older than the others. We have assume that he was George W. Bortner, married to Sarah Ruhl.
