Notes for Samuel Ramer and Lydia Reed

1870 Abraham Reed (age 52) lived in Union City, Elkhart County, Indiana, with wife Mary Reed and Noah (age 23), Aaron (age 21), Anna (age 21), Abraham (age 19), Mary (age 17), Lydia (age 17), and Elias (age 15). [1]

1878 Samuel Ramer and Lydia Reed were married on September 8 in Elkhart County, Indiana. John Metzler was the officiator. The license was issued on August 27, 1878. [2] [3] [4]

1900 Lydia Ramer (born in Ohio, married), wife, lived in United States, in a household with Samuel Ramer (age 44) and children Aarenno Ramer (age 20), Mary Ramer (age 18), Noah Ramer (age 15), and Daniel Ramer (age 13), and mother Mary Reed (age 83). Lydia Ramer's father was born in Virginia and her mother was born in Pennsylvania. Lydia Ramer had had 4 children. [5]

1912 Daniel Ramer, of Nappanee, Indiana, and Ida A Weaver, of Wakarusa, Indiana, were married on November 17 in Elkhart County, Indiana. Martin Ramer was the officiator. Daniel Ramer, child of Samuel Ramer and Lydia Reed, was born on October 16, 1887, in Elkhart County, Indiana. Ida A Weaver, child of Henry M Weaver and Amanda Shaum, was born on February 7, 1891, in Elkhart County, Indiana. The license was issued on November 16, 1912. [6]

1914 An obituary for Samuel Ramer reported [7]:

Ramer.-Samuel Ramer was born in Elkhart County, Indiana, Oct. 30, 1856; was united in marriage to Lydia Reed Sept. 8, 1878; died Oct. 10, 1914; aged 57 y. 11 m. 10 d. He leaves to mourn his departure his beloved wife, 3 sons (Menno, Noah, and Daniel), 1 daughter, (Mary Martin), 1 brother (Bro. Martin Ramer), and a host of friends. He united with the Mennonite Church in early life which he faithfully kept to the end. The funeral was conducted Oct. 13, by Bros. Henry Schrock, Christian Weaver, and John Martin, from II Tim. 4:8, 9, at the Yellow Creek Church near Goshen, Indiana. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.

1933 Lydia (Reed) Ramer lived in Nappanee, Indiana [8].

1940 An obituary for Lydia (Reed) Ramer reported [9]:

Ramer.--Lydia, daughter of Abraham I. and Mary (Weaver) Reed, was born Dec. 12, 1852 in Mahoning County, Ohio; came to Elkhart County, Indiana, with her parents at the age of eight years; died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Feb. 26, 1940; aged 87 y. 2 m. 14 d. Her marriage to Samuel Ramer took place on Sept. 8, 1878. He died Oct. 10, 1914. Surviving are four children (Mary,wife of Abraham Martin; Menno, Noah, Daniel, all of Elkhart County, Indiana), one twin sister (Mary Musser of near Goshen, Indiana), one brother (Abraham of Nappanee, ind.) Funeral services were conducted Feb. 28 by Joseph Martin and Henry Martin at the Yellow Creek Mennonite Church. Burial in adjoining cemetery.
