[1] Also reported as: In August, Richard P Applegate, son of E L Applegate and Arielle Pickett of Jackson Twp, Darke County, Ohio, was born in Spartansburg, Wayne County, Indiana. [2]

1930 E G (Elmore Grey) Applegate (age 63, born in Ohio, married, first married at age 37) lived in Jackson Twp, Darke County, Ohio, in a household with Arielle Applegate (age 50), Edward Applegate (age 23), Richard Applegate (age 21), Lilliam Applegate (age 19), and Barbara Applegate (age 17). Union City, In an impressive June wedding at 2:30 o'clock, Wednesday afternoon at the First Methodist Church, Miss Catherine Palser and Richard Applegate were married. The bride is the niece of Dr. and Mrs. B. T. Messick. West Oak St., where she has made her home for the last three years. Mr. Applegate is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Applegate, of north of Lisbon. Before a banked altar of summer flowers and two white candelabra, the Reverend R. H. Applegate, pastor of the United Brethren Church ot Dayton, Ohio, and brother of the bridegroom, read the single ring ceremony. A program of bridal music was played by Miss Betty Jean Shierling, organist, and Miss Jean Applegate, niece of the groom, vocalist. Attendants were Miss Katherine Shafer and Max Thornburg. Ushers were Bill Chattin and Paul Shafer. A reception at the home of Dr. and Mrs. B. T. Messick following the wedding was attended by many out of town guests, including Mr. and Mrs. Ranald Wolfe, of Indianapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wolfe and daughter, Mrs. James Teegarden, all of Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Virus Alspaugh, of Dayton; Mrs. Frances Mutzner and Mrs. Millard Brumbaugh, both of Covington, Ohio; Mrs. Hal Rowe and daughters, Martha Jane and Mary, all of Dunkirk, Indiana.

1987 An obituary reports [18] [19]:

Richard P. Applegate, 79; Retired Methodist Minister Richard P. Applegate, 79, former Muncie resident and United Methodist minister, died Wednesday in Ball Memorial Hospital He was born in Lynn. He moved to Jackson, Ohio, where he graduated from Jackson High School and spent his early years. He had lived the past few years in Huntsville. Rev. Applegate pastored Claypool United Methodist Church in Kosciusko County several years before retiring. Earlier, he pastored several other churches, including Morningside and Mount Olive churches in Delaware County and Bartonia, Mount Zion, Oakland and Blackford churches, near Union City. Rev. Applegate was a member of the North Indiana Conference of United Methodist Churches and attended Glad Tidings and Faith Assembly of God Church in Anderson. Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Palser Applegate; two daughters. Donna Gregory, Selma, and Kathy (Mrs. Terry) Phillips, Lititz, Pa.; two sons, Philip Applegate, Greencastle, and Edward Alan Applegate, Daleville; two sisters, Lillian Applegate, Auburn, and Barbara Wright, Union City, and 11 grandchildren. Services will be in Meeks Mortuary at 2:30 p.m. Saturday with his sons officiating. Burial will be in Lisbon Cemetery, north of Union City. Calling at the mortuary is 2-9 p.m. today or before services Saturday.

2021 Kathryn Jean Applegate died on January 13 and was buried at Lisbon Cemetery, Union City, Randolph County, Indiana. Kathryn Jean Applegate was born on June 3, 1920. [21] [22]

Kathryn Jean Applegate 100, of Lititz, died at 5:40 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at her home in Lititz. She was born on June 3, 1920 in Frederickstown, OH to Fleece Buchanan and Elva Blanche James. Following her parents passing, she lived at the National Orphans Home – Junior Order United American Mechanics in Tiffon, OH where she graduated High School in June 1937. She married Richard Applegate on June 27th, 1939 who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by 3 sisters, a brother, and son Philip.

Kathryn had four children: Donna Applegate, Philip Applegate (deceased), Edward Alan Applegate (wife Connie), Kathy Phillips (husband Terry). She had 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Kathryn was a devoted minister’s wife for 36 years serving in the United Methodist Church of the North Indiana Conference. She volunteered as church secretary and was a wonderful mother to her four children.

Kathryn loved to read and take daily walks. She also enjoyed daily mocha Frappes. Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy were her T.V. shows of choice. She enjoyed dogs and cats and had many pets through the years. She loved her grandchildren, and she was known for reading to them in a way only grandma could. She was also an expert at baking pies and making noodles.

Her greatest love and passion in life was the relationship she had with her heavenly Father. Kathryn taught Sunday School, was a prayer warrior, and a spiritual giant. Her greatest desire was to see all her family in heaven one day.

Funeral Services for Kathryn will be held at 10AM, Friday, January 29, 2021 at Highpoint Community Church, 18 Hahnstown Rd., Ephrata, PA 17522. Family and friends will be received at the church from 9AM to 10AM. Interment in will take place at Lisbon Cemetery, Union City, Indiana at 10AM, Monday, February 1, 2021.
