Stephen Schooley was one of the early merchants of Springdale, Ohio. [1]

1795 Stephen Schooly, son of John and Mary Schooley, was born in May. [2] [3]

1802 Susan Duffield was born on October 29 in West Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. [4]

c 1810 Stephen Schooley was an early merchant in Springdale on the Springfield Pike. [5]

1834 "Schooley, Stephen, pork dealer, c Walnut and Canal, h Court b Race and Elm." [6]

1839-40 "Schooley, Stephen (O[hio]) Pk-Mer [pork merchant], 9 at the Basin, res, cor 9 & Ra." [7]

1842 "Schooley, Stephen (Pork Merchant) Race Corner 9th, Cincinnati" [8]

1848 Pork Merchants: "Schooley & Son, North side Court, bet. Race and Vine", Cincinnati, Ohio. [9]

1850 Stephen Schooley (age 55, born in Ohio) lived in Cincinnati Ward 5, Hamilton County, Ohio, in a household with Susan Schooley (age 50), Samuel D Schooley (age 26), Mary Schooley (age 17), Sarah Schooley (age 16), and Lurett Schooley (age 13). [10]

1860 Stephen Schooley (age 64, born in Ohio) lived in Cincinnati Ward 1, Hamilton County, Ohio, in a household with Susan Schooley (age 58), Saml Schooley (age 32), Augusta Schooley (age 30), Sarah Schooley (age 23), Lusette Schooley (age 23), Alice Tillitson (age 14), Mary Proterd (age 19), Anne Toole (age 18), and Mary A Boyle (age 10). [11]

1866 On 4 November, Susan Schooley died. [12] Susan Duffield Schooley died of cholera in Cincinnati, Ohio and was buried at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. [13]

1870 Stephan Schooley (age 75, born in Ohio) lived in Cincinnati Ward 23, Hamilton County, Ohio, in a household with Elanor Schooley (age 40), Eliza Schooley (age 20), and Maggie Katenkamp (age 17). Stephan Schooley's occupation was retired pork mch. [14]

1874 Stephen Schooley died on May 18, at age 79. [15] [16] Stephen Schooley died of old age in Mt. Auburn, Ohio and was buried at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. [17]

Research Notes:

1850 John C Schooley (age 30, born in Ohio) lived in Cincinnati Ward 5, Hamilton County, Ohio, in a household with Eliza Schooley (age 23), John Schooley (age 5), Mary Schooley (age 3), Johanna Deneday (age 13), and Julia Cunningham (age 20). [18]

1855 A patent was issued to "John C. Schooley, Cincinnati, Ohio Processes of Curing Meats - Patented March 13, 1855, No. 12,539; extended April 13, 1869. Claim - The process of curing meat and preserving fruit and provisions, by means of circulating currents of air, artificially dried by ice or its equivalent, through the rooms wherein the curing takes place, substantially as and for the purposes set forth." [19] This patent was subject to several subsequent court cases. A refrigerator based on this patent won a Bronze Medal in 1875 [20].
