1791 Christina Bortner, daughter of Hannes and Juliana Bortner, was born on September 25, She was baptized on September 29, 1791, with sponsor Barbara Gantz at Fissel's (Jerusalem) Union Church, Shrewsbury Township, York County, Pennsylvania. [6] [7] [8] [9]

1792 John Portner, son of John and Juliann Portner, was born on November 22. He was baptized on December 30,1792, with sponsors George and Abellone Portner, at Saint Paul's Church in Shrewsbury, York County, Pennsylvania. [10] [11] [12]

1793 One report states that before 1800 John Bortner, the fourth son of George Bortner, settled in Hopewell Twp, York County. [13] In fact, documents cited here suggest that John Bortner moved from Shrewsbury to Hopewell about 1793.

1793-1805 John Portner was taxed initially with 195 acres of land and later with 360 acres and a mill in Hopewell Twp, York County. [14] [15] [16] [17] [18] [19]

1794 Elisabeth Portner, child of Johannes Portner and Juliana Portner, was baptized on March 9, 1794, in Saddlers Lutheran (St John), Hopewell Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. Elisabeth Portner was born on February 15, 1794, in Pennsylvania. [20] [21] [22]

1797 Salome Bortner, child of Johannes Bortner, was baptized with sponsor (grandmother) Margretha Ruhl in Saddlers Lutheran (St John), Hopewell Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. Salome Bortner was born on December 24, 1797, in Pennsylvania. [23] [24]

1810 John Bortner lived in Hopewell Twp, York County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 1 (under 10), 1 (10 thru 15), 1 (16 thru 25), and 1 (45 and over); and females: 1 (under 10), 2 (16 thru 25), and 1 (45 and over). [25]

1824 Julia “Juliana” Gantz Bortner died on June 27 and was buried at Saint John Lutheran Church Cemetery, Stewartstown, York County, Pennsylvania. Julia “Juliana” Gantz Bortner was born on November 16, 1756. [26] [27]

1830 John Bortner lived in Hopewell Twp, York County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 2 (5 thru 9), 1 (15 thru 19), and 1 (50 thru 59); and females: 1 (40 thru 49). [28]

1840 John Bortner lived in Hopewell Twp, York County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 1 (under 5), 1 (5 thru 9), and 1 (60 thru 69); and females: 1 (30 thru 39). [29]

1850 John Bordner (age 86, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Hopewell Twp, York County, Pennsylvania, in a household with John Knerr (age 39), Julia Ann Knerr (age 31), John H Knerr (age 5), Andrew W Knerr (age 3), Jane Ann Knerr (age 2), and Catharine Russell (age 10). [30]

1854 Son-in-law Robert Hyson died on March 8 and was buried at Old Hopewell Presbyterian Cemetery, York County, Pennsylvania. Robert Hyson was born on July 16, 1774. [31] [32]

1859 John Bortner died on April 26, 1859 and a memorial stone is at Saint John Lutheran Church Cemetery, Stewartstown, York County, Pennsylvania, USA. John Bortner was born 1768. [33] [34] A death, at age 91, on date April 8, 1859, has been reported. [35]

1872 Christina “Jane” Bortner Hyson died on March 21 and was buried at Old Hopewell Presbyterian Cemetery, York County, Pennsylvania. Christina “Jane” Bortner Hyson was born on September 25, 1791. [36] [37]

1877 Son-in-law John Fife died on April 9 and was buried at Rock Chapel Cemetery, York County, Pennsylvania. John Fife was born on May 11, 1792. [38] [39]

1888 Daughter Elizabeth Bortner Fife died on July 5 and was buried at Rock Chapel Cemetery, York County, Pennsylvania. Elizabeth Bortner Fife was born on February 15, 1794. [40] [41]

Research Notes:

"John [Bortner], married to Julia Gantz, was born in 1768, died in 1859, aged ninety-one years. He had six children as far as I know; three sons and three daughters, John, Jacob, Josiah; one of the daughters was married to a Fife, one to a Hyson, and the other to a Yost." [42]

"John (1768 - 1859) - m. Juliana Gantz (c1756 - 1824) Son of George Bortner and Maria Appalonia Floucher. Born in Codorus Twp., York Co., Pa. Farmer in Hopewell Twp., York Co., Pa. Children: Jane (Mrs. Robert Hyson), John, Elizabeth (Mrs. John Fife), Jacob, Salome (Mrs. - Yost), Peter, Jesse." [43]

1850 Jesse Bordner (age 39, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Hopewell Twp, York County, Pennsylvania in a household with Mary Bordner (age 33), Jacob Bordner (age 14), Catharine Bordner (age 11), Henry H Bordner (age 9), and Mary Jane Bordner (age 5). Jesse Bordner's occupation was laborer. [44]

1857 The appraisement and account of the property taken by the widow of Jesse Bortner late of Hopewell Twp, York County, deceased was recorded on March 21. [45]

1857 On July 23, the heirs of Jacob Bortner, deceased, petitioned the Orphans Court concerning land from the estate. Jacob had died May 12, last, leaving widow and thirteen children. The heirs were Elizabeth Rohrbaugh formerly Bortner Jesie? Bortner and Peter Rohrbaugh her husband, Serry? Bortner, Jesse Bortner, Daniel Bortner, Amos Bortner, Lucy Ann Steffey formerly Bortner and her husband George Steffey, Jacob C Bortner, Charles Bortner, Catharine Bortner and her husband James? M Bortner, Matilda Devinney formerly Bortner and her husband George Devinney her husband, Emanuel Bortner, Levi Bortner, Juliana? Bortner under the guardianship of Daniel Bortner her said guardian; children of Jacob Bortner late of Codorus Twp, York County deceased and Catharine Bortner the widow of said Jacob Bortner deceased.
