1697 Fardinnando Batty, child of Fardinnando Batty and Elizabeth Batty, was born on April 22, 1697. He was baptized in Westminster Parish, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. [1] [2]

1700 Ferdinando Battes, child of Ferdinando Battes and Elizabeth Battes, was baptized on July 23, in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. [3] [4]

1718 Ferdinando Battee and Elizabeth Wooden were married on December 11 at All Hollows Parish, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. [5] [6]

1746 Elizabeth Battee, daughter of Ferdinando and Elizabeth Battee, and Jonathan Sellman were married on September 18. [7]

after 1747 A note, perhaps from a diary of Henry Gassaway, not yet seen, reports [8]

… I should say that through a soft, grayed rains of May appeared an angelic face, which shifted godly light once again upon my visage. Her name was Dinah Battee, and she was a child of his second marriage.

I had often felt that beause of my monetary comfort, I might be heckled by poor, impish girls with designs on my estate. Dinah's father, however, had made a name for himself in land sales as well as through relations with the army's explosive implements, crafting small petards and selling them in bulk to the aforementioned forces. Her dowry would be, if not luxurious, then most handsome and acceptable. It was a long process to inquire about Dinah, and she was never willing to utter more than a word or two in passing through the sanctuary. It was this behavior and my extreme infatuation that led me to believe she was a lady of fine manners and raising. …
