1918 Emma Rose Ripkey (age 29) of Ames, Iowa and Ole Edwin VanGundy (age 33) of Slator, Iowa, received a marriage license and were married on January 14 by Lew C. Harris, Pastor, in Ames, Story County, Iowa. The parents of Emma Rose Ripkey were listed as Joseph Geo Ripkey and Frederica M Klnit and her birth place as McPherson County, Kansas. Ole's birth place was Spencer, Iowa, and his parents were John Wesley VanGundy and Morey Mason. [1]

1920 On February 19, Ole E. Van Gundy (age 34, born in Iowa, father born in Illinois and mother in Iowa), farmer, and Emma R. (age 29, born in Kansas, father born in New York and mother in Missouri) lived in Harrison, Boone County, Iowa with daughter Fern J. (age 1, born in Iowa). [2] [3]

1930 On April 16, Emma R. Van Gundy, a widow (age 40), lived in Slater, Story County, Iowa with her children Fern (age 11) and Edwin (age 10). Emma was working as a wash woman. She was born in Kansas, her father was born in New York, and her mother was born in Missouri. Both children were born in Iowa. [4] [5]

1979 Emma Rose Vangundy died on January 4 in Alameda County, California. The death record states that she was born on January 7, 1890, in Kansas. [6] A memorial stone at Oakmont Memorial Park, Lafayette, Contra Costa County, California, states, "In loving memory, Van Gundy, Jimus 1943-1998, Emma R. 1890-1979." [7]
