A biosketch reports [1]:

Levi H. Hosler ... was born in Morrow County, Ohio, April 2, 1845 [sic], and there spent his youth, learning the trade of wagonmaker. He married Miss Abigail Bacheldor, who was born in the same county August 26, 1847, and was daughter of New England parents, who came from Maine to the Buckeye state at an early period in its development. Soon after his marriage Levi H. Hosler removed to Richland county and opened a shop in Shancks. Three years later he went to Noble County, and engaged in farming in Jefferson Township for four years, after which he took up his abode in Green township, where he made his home for fourteen years. On the expiration of that period, he went to Cass county where he operated a sawmill for three years, when he removed his mill to DeKalb county, Indiana. After two years, however, he disposed of that property and went to Alberton, Williams County, Ohio, where he established a mill, conducting the same for eleven years, and in May 1900, he disposed of that enterprise by sale and went to Hicksville, Ohio, where he is successfully engaged in the manufacture of lumber.

1850 Henry and Lydia Hosler lived in Congress Twp, Morrow County, Ohio with children Levi (age 10), Jacob (age 8), Juliann (age 6), Susan (age 5), Mary A (age 3), and George (age 1). [2]

1859 Levi Hosler and Abigail Bachelder were married on June 30. Levi's father Henry gave consent for Levi, who was not yet 21 years old, to marry Abigail Bachelder, a resident of Morrow County. [3] [4] [5] [Photocopy] Marriage record for Levi Hosler and Abigail Bachelder

1860 Levi H Hosler (age 20) was a wagonmaker living in Woodville, Perry Twp, Morrow County, Ohio with wife Abigail (age 18) and no children. Their estate was valued at $325+$100. [6] [7] [8]

1862 Jacob Hosler sold land on July 31, in Johnsvile, Morrow County, Ohio to Levi Hosler for $50. Together, Levi Hosler and John Bachelder purchased land from Joseph Long on the same day for $50.

1863 Levi Hosler, married, of Morrow County, Ohio was a wagon-maker, age 23, born in Ohio. Dated in June[9]

1864-65 Levi Hosler enlisted as a Private on 29 August 1864 at the age of 23 in Company F, 179th Infantry Regiment Ohio on September 29, 1864. He mustered out Company F, 179th Infantry Regiment Ohio on June 17, 1865. He served with distinguished service for the Union. [10] [11]

1864-1870 Levi Hosler "was a lumber dealer at Hoover, Indiana; served in Civil War in Company F 179 Reg. Ohio Vol. Inf. After the war he moved to Indiana, living first in Noble County, later at Hoover in Cass County, Indiana. [12] [13]

1870 Levi Hostler (age 29), farmer, and Abigail Hosler (age 28) lived in Green Twp, Noble County, Indiana with real estate valued at $2,000 and other estate valued at $600. David Hosler (age 8), William Hosler (age 6), and Lannier Hosler (age 3) lived with them. All in the family were born in Ohio, except for Lanier, who was born in Indiana. George Mortimer (age 21) was a farm laborer living in the household, born PA. One of their sons was David E. Hosler, who married Florence N. Applegate, daughter of James M. Applegate and Sophia Gray. 1874 Levi Hosler is listed as a landowner in section 34 of Green Twp, Noble County, Indiana in an 1874 Atlas.

1880 Levi Hostler (age 39), and Abigail (age 38) lived in Green Twp, Noble County, Indiana with David E (age 17), William E (age 15), and George L (age 12). [17] [18] [19]

1883 David E Hosler and Sarah F Applegate, both of Noble County, were married on January 11 in Noble County, Indiana. J P Moore was the officiator. David E Hosler, child of Levi Hosler and Abigal Batcheer, was born in Indiana. Sarah F Applegate, child of James Madison Applegate and Sophrona Gray, was born in Indiana. [20]

1884 Levi Hosler had a pension record in Indiana for his Civil War service in Company F of the 179th Ohio Infantry. [21] [22]

1887 A newspaper reported, on May 18, that "We had a pleasant surprise last week in a call by Mr. Jacob Hosler, of Washington Territory, accompanied by his brother, Levi H. Hosler, of this county. Jacob Hosler was formerly a resident of Noble County, but had not been here before in twenty-two years. He has held the office of Sheriff of his county for two terms. His present visit to his old home shows him great changes and improvements."

1900 Levi H Hassler operated a sawmill in Hicksville Twp, Defiance County, Ohio. His birthdate was listed as Apr 1839. He and his wife Abigail had been married 40 years and they lived with their daughter Nellie (age 19). Abigail has had 4 children, one still living. [24] [25] [26]

1909 Abigail, the widow of Levi Hosler, had a pension record on December 17 in Ohio for Levi's Civil War service in Company F of the 179th Ohio Infantry. [27]

1909 Levi H Hosler, married, died of Brights disease on December 5, at age 69y 8m 28d, in Hicksville Twp, Defiance County, Ohio. He was buried at Forest Home cemetery in Hicksville, Ohio. Levi H Hosler, son of Henry Hosler and Hoffman, was born on April 2, 1840, in Richland County, Ohio. Levi H Hosler's occupation was Farming. [28]

1909 Levi H Hosler died on December 5 and was buried at Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville, Defiance County, Ohio. Levi H Hosler was born on April 2, 1840. [29] [30] [31]

1909 Levi's obituary states: "Hosler Levi H died at his home Monday from kidney and heart disease, about 70 years. He was a son of Henry and Lydia Hosler, who were pioneers of Green Twp. For a number of years he conducted a saw mill in this city. Of late he has located in various points in western Ohio engaged in the same line of business. For the past few years he has resided on a farm near Hicksville, Ohio. He is survived by a widow, 3 sons, 2 foster daughters, 3 sisters, 2 brothers. He was a brother of Mrs. Eli Rivir, whose obsequies were held at Christian Chapel last Sunday. His obsequies were held at Hicksville Wednesday. Burial, Hicksville Cemetery." [32] [33]

1909 An obituary reports [34] [35]:

Levi H. Hosler was born in Morrow County. O.. April 2nd. 1840. He was united in marriage to Abigail Batchelor June 30th, 1859. Mr. and Mrs. Hosier celebrated their golden wedding on the 30th of last June, at which time the family of children and grand-children were all at home. He was the father of four children, Eliza Ellen, deceased in childhood, David E., residing in Ashtabula County, Wm. E. residing in New York, and Geo. L. residing in Hicksville. He removed with his wife and two children to Noble County, Ind., and later to Alvordton. O. He moved to Hicksville about ten years ago, and, with the exception of two years, he has since resided in Hicksville. He came into the Christian church here some years ago. He enlisted in the service of his country, and, leaving his wife and children, he gave his manly strength to his country in the hour of her need. He was a member of the K. of P. order, and believed in their principles. He was a good man, a king in his home; in his fatherly duties he took great pleasure, and was father to two other children, not their own, but living with them; the present Mrs. Simon Ray, and Mrs. A. M. Cook. These two women were reared by Mr. and Mrs. Hosier to a noble womanhood, and both of them manifested their appreciation of this service by being present to help take care of him in his last illness. He passed away Dec. 5th, 1909, aged 69 years, 8 months and 28 days. He was greatly loved and his going has left an aching void. The funeral was conducted from the Christian Church on Wednesday afternoon, burial at Forest Home.

1924 Abajail B Hosler, widowed, died from cancer of the stomach on November 5, at age 82y 2m 9d, in Hicksville Twp, Defiance County, Ohio. Abajail B Hosler, daughter of Daniel Bachlor and Mary Spencer (both born in Ohio), was born on August 26, 1842, in Richland County, Ohio. William Hosler of Churubusco Indiana was the informant. [36]

1924 Abigail Hosler died on November 5 and was buried at Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville, Defiance County, Ohio. Abigail Hosler was born on August 26, 1842. [37] [38]

1934 David Ellsworth Hosler, married, died on September 3, at age 72, in Tiffin Twp, Seneca County, Ohio. David Ellsworth Hosler, son of Levi Hosler and Abigail Bachelder, was born on August 1, 1862, in Albion County, Indiana. David Ellsworth Hosler was a Timber Dealer. [39]

1942 William Edison Hosler, spouse of Katurah Hosler, died on June 2, at age 77, in Rural, Noble County, Indiana. He was born on October 12, 1864, in Ohio, son of Levi Hosler and Abigail Hosler. [40] [41] [42]
