c 1255 Robert de Ckniteley was listed as the lord of the manor of Knightley in Staffordshire in a list of the lords of manors, 39-40 H. III., as given by the three Hundred Rolls of Cuttleston, Offlow, and Seisdon. Robert held the mannor of Robert de Halenton and the chief lord was listed as the Barony of Stafford. A footnote states the the designation of the chief lord in the list was a mistake for fitz Alan. [1]
