c1639 The 1644 survey of Rowley suggests that George Abbott had received land in each of the initial divisions of land when Rowley was founded in the spring of 1639. Perhaps George and his sons came to Massachusetts with Ezekiel Rogers and the members of his Rowley, Yorkshire, parish. Ezkeiel Rogers' father Richard and older brother Daniel were nonconformist clergy in Wethersfield, Essex, about 16 miles west of Chappel. A Timothy Rogers (son of Vincent Rogers) was vicar of Great Tey at the time George Abbott and Mary Felsted were married there. Timothy Rogers' brother Nehemiah Rogers was rector of Great Tey in the 1630s.

1643/4 A survey of the town of Rowley, Massachussets, taken on January 10, lists the house lot on Wethersfield Street and the agricultural lands that had been granted to George Abbott since the founding of the town in 1639. Since he is listed among those receiving a house lot and other lands in the first division, he was likely among the original settlers of Rowley in 1639. [14]

Research Notes:

A Mary Felsted was baptized in Great Chesterfield, Essex, in 1606. Her mother, Agnes Gibson, was buried in 1612 and her father, John Felsted, in 1613. The will of her father indicates that she was living in 1613, but the wills of her father's brothers and, most clearly, her mother's brother indicate that she was living and unmarried in 1639.
