Notes for David Brenizer and Susanna Kimmel

There are two David Brenizers, born about 1797 in Pennsylvania. This one married Susanna Kimmel in East Pennnsboro and then lived in Shippensburg. Another lived in West Pennsboro (married to Sophia) and moved to Medway, Ohio. Both are candidates to be David, son of John. Notes are given below for David Brenizer married to Susan Kimmel for research purposes. Although we believe that they are not the same person, we show two marriages for this David Brenizer, and the marriage notes for each give the records for these two David Brenizer men. We seek help in figuring out which, if either, of these men was the son of John Brenizer.

c 1797 David Brenizer was born about 1797 in Pennsylvania. [1]

c 1804 Susanna Kimmel was born about 1804 in Pennsylvania. [2]

1817 David Brenizer was taxed in East Pennsbro Twp, Cumberland County. [3]

1822 "Married on the 21st by Rev. Mr. Ebaugh of Carlisle, David Brenizer to Miss Susanna Kimmel, both of East Pennsborough Twp." [4]

1830 George Kimmel lived in Shippensburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. James Sturges was listed nearby (see 1840 census). [5]

1830 David Brenizer lived in East Pennsboro Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania with one male age 0-5, one age 20-30 and one 30-40 (likely himself) with one female age 0-5, one age 5-10, one age 15-20, and one 20-30. The adjacent listing was Samuel Kimmel age 30-40, a possible brother-in-law. Wm Kirtland was listed nearby. [6]

1831 In December, "Henry Lease and David Brenizer bought eight to ten acres of land, on the south side of Main Street [Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania] from George Steinbring, which they laid out in lots." [7]

1834 David Brenizer and wife Susanna sold a 2 acre lot in Mechanicsburg to Phillip Weber on March 20. They had purchased the lot in 1833 from Rudolph Meyers. [8]

1834 David Brenizer was executor for William Kirtland of East Pennsboro (a neighbor of David in the 1830 census). [9]

1840 David Brenizen lived in Shippensburg Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 1 (10 thru 14) and 1 (40 thru 49); and females: 1 (5 thru 9), 2 (10 thru 14), 1 (15 thru 19), and 1 (30 thru 39). [10] Neighboring listings were David Nering, Jonathan Keefer, Anderson, Ulz, Sheller (see 1850), Hefflinger, Cobaugh (similar to 1850 census), James Mackey, James Sturges.

1845 David and Susanna Brenizer and George and Elizabeth Kimmel (perhaps relatives of Susanna), all of Shippensburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, purchased 202 acres of a 322 acre parcel of land in Southampton Twp from Thomas Chambers, who had bought it at a sheriff's sale of the estate of Thomas Duncan. Dated August 28.

1850 David Brenizer (age 53) lived in Shippensburg Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania with Susanna (age 46) and Samuel a tanner (age 23), Elizabeth K (age 19), and Margaret W (age 16). [11] [12] Neighbors included Bush, Burkholder, Cobaugh (see 1840 census), Sheeler (see 1840), Sturgeon, Carlisle, McKee.

1851 David Brenizer and wife Susanna of Southampton Twp, Cumberland County sold land to John and Mary Stough. George Kimmel and David Brenizer had purchase the land as tenants in common in 1836. George Kimmel and wife Elizabeth and David Brenizer and wife Susanna partitioned the land in 1845. [13]

c 1860 David Brenizer died before April 10, 1861, when his body was transferred from City Cemetery, Peoria County, Illinois to the Springdale Cemetery in Peoria. David Brenizer was born in 1797. [14] [15]

1860 Susan Brenizer (age 56) lived in Davenport, Scott, Iowa with (likely son-in-law) H B Evans (age 32), Maggie W Evans (age 24), Anna Evans (age 7), Mary K Evans (age 3/12), Mary J Evans (age 24), and Amelia Lodehoff (age 18). [16]

1873 Susan Kimmel Brenizer died on December 9 and was buried at Springdale Cemetery and Mausoleum, Peoria County, Illinois. Susan Kimmel Brenizer was born on April 1, 1804. [17] [18]

Daughter Elizabeth:

1900 Elizabeth K Freeman (born in Pennsylvania in Mar 1831, married for 40 years), wife, lived in Helena Ward 3, Lewis and Clark, Montana, in a household with Henry C Freeman (71). Elizabeth K Freeman's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. Elizabeth had not had any children. [19]

1900 Capt Henry Clay Freeman died on October 21 at Butte, Silver Bow County, Montana and was buried at Forestvale Cemetery, Helena, Lewis and Clark County, Montana. Capt Henry Clay Freeman was born on February 6, 1829. [20] [21]

1920 Elizabeth Freeman (age 88, born in Pennsylvania, widowed), inmate, lived in Brooklyn Assembly District 21, Kings County, New York. Elizabeth Freeman's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. Elizabeth Freeman could read and write. [22]

1923 Elizabeth K. Brenizer Freeman died on February 26 and was buried at Green-Wood Cemetery, Kings County, New York. Elizabeth K. Brenizer Freeman was born in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania on March 1, 1831. [23] [24] [25]

Mrs. Elizabeth Freeman, Civil War Veteran, Dies at Age of 92

New York, Feb. 27. Mrs. Elizabeth K. Freeman, who served the Union as a despatch bearer during the Civil War is dead at 92, in the Congregational Home for the Aged in Brooklyn.

Mrs. Freeman, the widow of Col. Henry Freeman, who was a delegate to the convention which nominated Lincoln remembered several visits which the President paid to her family When they were living in Illinois.

Mrs. Freeman was born In Mechanlcsburg, Pa.

Daughter Margaret:

1855 Margaret W Breninger and H B Evans were married on November 28 in Peoria, Illinois. [27]

1923 Margaret W. Brenizer Evans died on December 18 and was buried at Green-Wood Cemetery, Kings County, New York. Margaret W. Brenizer Evans was born in 1833. [28] [29]
