Notes for Joseph Pancoast and Thomasin Scattergood

1696 On ye 5th of the 8th month (October), at the Men's Monthly Meeting held at the house of Eliz. Gardiner in Burlington, "Joseph Pancoast & Thomasin Scattergood declared their intentions of marriage it being the second time of their coming & finding all clear & nothing to hinder or impede the same they are left to consumate that weighty affair in a convenient time & place as they in the fear of the Lord shall see meet." [1]. A summary record of marriages reported that Joseph Pancoast & Thomasin Scattergood were married in 1696 [2].

1696 Joseph Pancoast and Tomson Scattergood were married on October 14, at the house of Thomas Scattergood, Burlington County, New Jersey. [3]

1702 Richard French and Mary King were married on January 13, 1701/02 at the house of Harmenus King, Nottingham Twp, Burlington County, New Jersey. Witnessed by Joseph and Thomasin Pancoast and others. [4]

1709 On 19 of month 3, Thomazin Pancoast, and others, witnessed the wedding, at Chesterfield, Burlington County, New Jersey, of Isaac Horner, of Mansfield, and Elizabeth Sikes, of Chesterfield. [5]

1724 On 20 October, John Pancoast, son of Joseph of Mansfield, married Elizabeth Ogborne at Springfield Meeting, Burlington County. Witnessed by Joseph and Thomasin Pancoast, and others. [6]

1729 On 16 April, Thomasin Pancoast, daughter of Joseph Pancoast of Mansfield, and Joshua Wright, son of Joshua Wright of Chesterfield, were married at Upper Springfield meeting, Burlington County. Witnessed by Joseph and Thomasin Pancoast and others. [7]

1741 On May 20, Benjamin Pancoast, son of Joseph Pancoast of Mansfield Twp, married Sarah Hugg in the city of Burlington. Witnessed by Joseph and Thomasin Pancoast and others. [8]

1745 On 15 April, Joseph Pancoast, perhaps this one, was a freeholder in Mansfield Township, Burlington County, New Jersey. [9]

1762 On November 1, Joseph Pancoast, of Mansfield Twp, Burlington County, yeoman, dated his will. Wife, Thomasin, the profit of my farm. Daughter, Mary Folkes, £30. Daughter, Thomasin Wright's 3 daughters, £30. Daughter, Anna Bacon's 2 children, viz., Daniel and Mary, £20 between them, Elizabeth being heretofore considered. Daughter, Elizabeth Curtis' 2 children, viz., Thomas and Grace, £30. Daughter, Susannah Willkins' 3 sons, £30. Daughter Pheby's children, £23. Grandson, John Pancoast (son of my son John), and Joshua and Joseph Wright (sons of my daughter Thomasin Wright), 10 shillings each. To the Mansfield meeting, £5. Son John's 2 daughters, viz., Thomasin and Hannah, £3 each; and to Mary Butler's 3 children, £3. Son Thomas' 4 daughters, £5 each. Son Benjamin's 3 daughters, £5 each. Grandson, Thomas Pancoast (son of my son, Thomas), my lands in the mountains, lying on a ranch of Delaware river, called Pawlins Cut. Grandson, Joseph (son of my son Benjamin), farm where I live, when 21. To my 3 daughters, £50 each. To grandson, Thomas, and my grandson, Joseph (son of my son Benjamin), and my grandson, Joseph (son of my son John), my swamp on Wading river. Executors: kinsman, Thomas Scattergood, and my son-in-law, Thomas Folkes, and my grandson, Thomas Pancoast. Witnesses: Thomas Newbold, Samuel Rockhill, John Curtis. Proved Oct. 27, 1766. [10]

1765 Joseph Pancoast, perhaps this one, and Abraham Scott witnessed the will of Joseph Pearson of Burlington. [11]

1766 January 18. Codicil. My granddaughter, Hannah Young, is dead, and I give ½ of her share to my granddaughter, Thomasin Shourds, and the other half to my granddaughter Mary Butler's children. Witnesses: John Curtis, Samuel Rockhill, Ruth Southward. Proved Oct. 27, 1766. [12]

1766 On November 3, the inventory, valued at £701.6.0, made by Henry Delatush and John Imlay. [13]

1769 On September 9, the account was made for the estate of Thomas Foulke by Thomas Scattergood and Thomas Pancoast, the Executors. [14]
