1917 On June 5, Joseph E. McDill registered for the draft in Jewell City, Kansas. He was single. [1]

1930 Joseph E. McDill (age 36), farmer, and wife Gladys B. (age 34) lived at District 3, Browns Creek, Jewell, Kansas. They were married at ages 24 and 22, and had daughters Twila M. (age 9) and Letha L. (age 7). All were born in Kansas. [2]

1940 J. E. McDill (age 46) and Gladys McDill (age 44) lived in Browns Creek Twp, Jewell, Kansas with Twila (age 19), Letha (age 17), Alma (age 2). David Fields, laborer lived with them. [3]

1966 Joseph Earl McDill died and was buried at Jewell City Cemetery, Jewell, Jewell County, Kansas. [4] [5]
A biosketch reported [6]:

Joseph E. was born to Joseph R. & Amanda D. McDill in Jewell County. Except for a brief period spent in Arkansas, he grew to manhood in the Jewell-Ionia community, graduating from Ionia High school. He was united in marriage to Gladys B. Blacker, on Oct. 30, 1917. Three daughters were born to this marriage. Twila, Letha & Alma.

During the early years of their marriage, Joe & Gladys established their home southwest of Jewell, where they were active members of McCabe Chapel for many years. He had a sucessful & growing farming operation. He owned land in several places in Kansas. They also moved to several farms, until they moved their house from Brownscreek twp. to Mankato, in 1948. Altho, as time went on, his health began to fail him. He ended up spending a few years in the Good Samaritan Home in Ellsworth, Ks., where he was living when he passed away.

1979 Gladys McDill died and was buried at Jewell City Cemetery, Jewell, Jewell County, Kansas. [7] A biosketch reported:

Gladys was born to Florence M.(Jordan) & Frank C. Blacker. On Oct. 10,1917, she married Joseph E. McDill. To this union was born 3 daughters. Twila, Letha & Alma.

Joe & Gladys lived in Brownscreek Twp. for many years, in the same section that her parents lived. They purchased several farms in Ks. during their lives, so did a lot of moving. Gladys was a faithful wife & loving mother. She loved her garden & flowers & was a charter member of the Brownscreek Garden Club. She labored unselfishly in the farming operation with her husband, Joe. After his death, she zealously continued the responsibilities involved with the farms until her death.
