1376 John Culpeper died before Easter term, at which time Idoine widow of John son of Thomas Colpeper Knt., John de Fremyngham, Roger Asshbournham, James de Pecham, and John Stokesburne, executors of the will of John Colpeper, sued Thomas Neweman the younger, William Pyg, John Neweman the elder, John Thurston, and Walter Ferour in the Court of Common Pleas in an Essex plea regarding a debt of £100. [1]

1381 Thomas, son of John Colpeper, acknowledged an agreement with John's widow Idoine concerning land in lieu of her dower. [2]

Sir Thomas Colepeper knight, son of John Colepeper, and Idonea who was wife of the said John. Indenture reciting that the said Thomas delivered to her for life, so long as she should remain unmarried, in lieu of dower of all his "gavelekynd' lands in Kent, the manor of Badeselle called Fobeles with a water mill, the meadows of "Rowemede" and "Newelond" and other meadows in Whetestede, lands called Haukewelle, Foghlesdenne and Prykles, the manor of Barnette with the rent of Westhesdenne, a meadow called Stonperesheldesmede" and all other his lands etc. in Lye, two messuages etc. in Tonebrugge, one called Blodes the other near the "Taverne," a piece of land called Hesebroke in Penshurst and the moiety of the manor of Knolle by him purchased of Joce de Crofhurst, and in lieu of her dower of the manor of Wygeselle and other his lands in Sussex delivered to her the manor of Skotegrove with a water mill of Gretnarsche, a meadow called "Gatewykesmede" and the pasture in Zele, rendering to Sir Thomas and his heirs 21s. 1½d., power being reserved to distrain in the manor of Scotegrove, with covenant to make restitution if any of the premises should be recovered out of her hands, and witnessing a confirmation with warranty to her for life by Sir Thomas, provided she pay to the chief lords the services due and accustomed, of the manor of Barnette, the rent of Westhesedenne, "Stonperesheldesmede" and all the said John's lands etc. in Lye, the said messuages in Tonebrugge, Hesebroke, the manor of Skotegrove, Gretnarsche mill, "Gatewykesmede" and the pasture in Zele, so that she shall hold the same notwithstanding the determination of her former estate or of her dower by marriage or other cause according to the customs of "gavelkynde," rendering to the said Thomas and his heirs one rose yearly at Midsummer, and witnessing a release of the former rent, and of all actions for waste before this date in the manor called Fobeles, the mill, "Rewemede," "Newelond" and other meadows in Whetested and in Hawkwelle, Foghlesdoune (sic) and Prikles; and witnessing in consideration thereof a surrender and quitclaim by the said Idonea of the said manor called Fobeles, mill, meadows, and the lands called Hawkwelle, Foghlesdenne and Prikles and of 16s. of rent of a tenement in Holbourne in the suburb of London which were of the said John.
