1861 John Rohrer, of Kankakee County, Illinois, mustered into the 20th Illinois Infantry at age 19. He had blue eyes and light hair. He was born in Canton, Stark County, Ohio. He was discharged on June 13, 1864. [1]

1861 John Rohrer and Mary Martin were married on December 15, in Elkhart County, Indiana by Christian S. Farber. Their license was dated December 11. [2]

1870 John F Roher (age 27, born in Ohio) lived in Ottawa Twp, Franklin County, Kansas, in a household with Mary Roher (age 26), Manda J Roher (age 6), Joseph Roher (age 5), Daniel Roher (age 3), Susan Roher (age 3/12), Jos Penbaker (age 21), and E Hazleton (age 23). John F Roher was a farmer. [3] [4]

1880 John Rohrer (age 38, born in Ohio, married) lived in Harrison Twp, Elkhart County, Indiana, in a household with Mary Rohrer (age 37), Amanda Rohrer (age 16), Joseph Rohrer (age 14), Daniel Rohrer (age 12), Susanah Rohrer (age 9), George Rohrer (age 8), Aaron Rohrer (age 5), and Mary E. Rohrer (age 2). John Rohrer's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. John Rohrer's occupation was farming. [5] [6] [7]

1880 John W Rohrer was born on September 19, 1880, in Elkhart County, Indiana, son of John S Rohrer and Mary Martin. [8] [9] [10]

1884 "A terrible accident happened in Harrison township last Monday. Mr. John Rohrer, a brother of Joseph J. Rohrer, while working in the saw mill, had his left arm sawed completely off above the elbow. It was a sickening sight." [11]

1890 John F Rohrer was listed in the Elkhart Indiana directory at Harrison Southwest. [12]

1900 John Roher (born in Pennsylvania in Oct 1842, married for 35 years) lived in Harrison Twp, Elkhart County, Indiana, in a household with Mary Roher (age 56), Daniel S Roher (age 32), and Henry Roher (age 17). John Roher's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. [13] [14]

1907 Aaron Rohrer and Lovina Anglemeyer were married on March 14, in Wakarusa, Elkhart County, Indiana. The license recorded that Aaron was born on February 24, 1875 in Harrison Twp, Elkhart County to parents J F Rohrer and Mary Martin. [15] [16] [17] [18]

1909 Henry L. Rohrer and Hazel Mae Wade were married on July 21, in St. Joseph County, Indiana. The license recorded that Henry was born on March 15, 1884 in Goshen, Indiana to parents John F Rohrer and Mary Martin. [19] [20] [21] [22]

1910 Mary Roher (age 64, born in Pennsylvania, divorced, married 9 years ago) lived in Harrison Twp, Elkhart County, Indiana, in a household with John W Roher (age 29). Mary Roher's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. Mary Roher could read but could not write. Mary Roher had had 9 children, 8 surviving. [23] [24]

1918 Son John W Rohrer registered for the draft in Elkhart County, Indiana. He was born on September 19, 1880. He had characteristics: Light hair, Brown eyes, Stout build, and Medium height. His nearest relative was Mary Rohrer. He was a carpenter and worked for George Moyer. [25]

1920 Mary Rohrer (age 75, born in Pennsylvania, widowed), mother, lived in Harrison Twp, Elkhart County, Indiana, in a household with John W Rohrer (age 39), and Alice V Rohrer (age 9). Mary Rohrer's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. Mary Rohrer could read and write. [26] [27]

1920 John F Rorhir (age 77, born in Ohio, widowed) lived at 412 Goshen Ave, Elkhart Ward 2, Elkhart County, Indiana. John F Rorhir's parents were both born in Germany [sic]. John F Rorhir could read and write. John F Rorhir was a laborer. [28]

1923 John F Rohrer, widowed, died on May 19, at age 80. He lived at 412 Goshen Ave, Elkhart Twp, Elkhart County, Indiana. He was born on October 30, 1842, in Pennsylvania, son of Joseph Rohrer and Mary Furry. [29]

1923 John F. Rohrer died and was buried at Harrison Chapel Cemetery, Goshen, Elkhart County, Indiana. [30] [31]

1923 An obituary for John F Rohrer reported [32]:

John F. Rohrer of 412 Goshen avenue, aged 80 years, died at 2 o'clock Saturday, of heart disease and complications. Mr. Rohrer had been living alone until his illness developed six months ago. Then a daughter, Mrs. J.C. Wesley, went to live with him and care for the aged invalid.

The funeral services will be held at the home at 10 o'clock tomorrow, conducted by Rev. Samuel Heininger of the Methodist Protestand denomination. The burial will take place at the Harrison township cemetery.

Mr. Rohrer was born in Pennsylvania on October 30, 1842, and prior to coming to this city, 25 years ago, had lived for many years in Harrison township. Since living in Elkhart he had been employed as a caretaker of lots at Grace Lawn Cemetery.

Surviving Mr. Rohrer are six sons - Joseph Rohrer, who is in Florida, Daniel Rohrer of Los Angeles, George Rohrer of Bristol, Aaron Rohrer of Dunlap, John Rohrer of South West, this county, and Henry Rohrer of Mishikawa; two daughters, Mrs. Amanda Bussard of South Bend and Mrs. Wesley, and a sister, Mrs. Duncan Hoover of Harrison township.

1924 Mary Rohrer, widow, spouse of John Rohrer, died on March 10, at age 80, in Harrison Twp, Elkhart County, Indiana. She was born on February 23, 1844, in Lancaster Co. Penn, daughter of George Martin and Lavina Martin. [33] [34]

1924 Mary Rohrer died and was buried at Harrison Chapel Cemetery, Goshen, Elkhart County, Indiana. [35] [36]

1924 An obituary for Mary Rohrer reported [37]:

Mrs. Mary Rohrer, aged 80, mother of Mrs. John Wesley and George Rohrer of Elkhart, died yesterday afternoon at her home near Yellow Creek after three days of illness of pneumonia. The funeral services will be held at 1:30 Thursday at the Yellow Creek Mennonite church. Surviving Mrs. Rohrer are two daughters, five sons, 19 grand children, nine great grandchildren, three brothers, and two sisters.

1924 An obituary reported [38]:

Mrs. Mary Rohrer, 80 years old, died at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at her home near Yellow Creek, after an illness of 3 days with pneumonia. Mrs. Rohrer was born in Lancaster county, Penn., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Martin, and came to Elkhart county when but a child. For the past 42 years she had lived on the farm where she died. She was a member of the Evangelical church.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, friends and relatives meeting at the home at 1 o'clock and at 1:30 o'clock at the Yellow Creek Mennonite church. Rev. Calvin Huffman and Rev. David Yoder will officiate and interment will be made in the Harrison Center cemetery.3/13/1924.

A biosketch of Mary Martin reported [39]:

Mary Martin, born Feb. 23, 1844. in Lancaster Co., Pa.: was united in marriage Jan. 1, 1860, to John F, Rohrer, who was born Oct. 30, 1842. John spent most of his life on the farm, until about 1902 or 1903, when after having raised a large family to manhood and womanhood they separated through trilling difficulties. Mary and the younger of the children staid on their pleasant farm home six miles west of Goshen, Ind., and near the Yellow Creek Mennonite church. Mr. Rohrer has been married since, but again divorced, and at present is located in Elkhart. He at one time lost an arm in a saw mill not far from their home farm, and is known for miles and miles around, having also for years been peddling medicine. Mary Rohrer's address is Goshen, Ind., R.F.D. 4.

1944 Son John W Rohrer died on March 26 and was buried at Yellow Creek Brick Cemetery, Southwest, Elkhart County, Indiana. John W Rohrer was born on September 19, 1880. [40] [41]
