01.03.02 - hot shots II: lansing, mi
other bands:
set:
notes: the opening band had a cd called "the marty
genneti EP". no one remembers the band name though. this was
the band's 4th and final show at hot shots. in the words of fuzz manager
joe davis: "the rude staff, lack of patrons, and death-metal
loving sound guy made us want to leave. plus, the bartender took nate's
milk and threw it outside." [thanks jmfd]
01.04.02 - mac's bar: lansing, mi
other bands: the jinx, zerethan
set:
notes: the state news printed an article
about this show. in it they say the band was "complex, but not
overly confusing, making itself dreary and danceable at the same time."
the article also called brandon mead "the highlight" and
it would be hard to disagree. the setlist was written out by yours
truly, mr. backstage pass.

01.29.02 - the blind pig: ann arbor, mi
other bands: east road west, two red lines, abusing troy
set:
notes: the guy from abusing troy looked exactly like tom
green, but apparently he had heard that before because he didn't enjoy
being told so. this show was part of the blind pig showcase night
which happens on one or two tuesdays a month at the blind
pig and features local or up-and-coming bands. good show,
good times. [thanks jmfd]

02.08.02 - the elbow room: ypsilanti, mi

there was a decent turnout. joe davis: "scary bar, but good PA."
[thanks jmfd]

02.27.02 - rick's american cafe east: lansing, mi
other bands: rosetta
set:
notes: well...joe davis, would you care to sum up the evening?
- "rick's did not enjoy the fuzz. all of the sorostitutes in
their black bar pants couldn't figure out how to do a booty dance
to 'loopy'." [thanks jmfd]
03.10.02 - wired frog: eastpointe, mi
other bands: the pusherz & others
set:
notes: the band enjoyed the venue, and the setup of the stage
and it could have been a great show. however, the fuzz's set was heard
by a grand total of four people, and they knew their names (joe, alyssa,
anne & alan). [thanks jmfd]

04.11.02 - the green door: lansing, mi
other bands: jeff raudebaugh
set:
notes: brandon raudebaugh's brother, jeff opened for the
band, and brandon's girlfriend, alyssa stuck up for the band. some
regulars at the green door didn't dig the show and complained that
they couldn't dance to the music, and alyssa told them that studio
54 was right down the street. [thanks jmfd]
04.20.02 - churchill's food & spirits: flint,
mi
other bands: dan k project, glowb
set:
notes: well what else should the fuzz be doing on 4/20
than playing music with hippies. the other bands and their crowds
may have been a little confused by the fuzz but everyone had a great
time. one hippie was heard to remark about the slide show, "i
like the pictures." [thanks jmfd]

06.08.02 - curwood festival: owosso, mi
set: dr. rewind, loopy, raisins and rubberbands, travis
ate my atari, country song, e-life, me and the sea, baba o'riley,
coldfeet
notes: the annual curwood festival provided the fuzz with
an almost-hometown show with many friends and family, as well as lots
of teenagers in attendance. the music may have been a little too mature
for the crowd, but good times were had by all. the band's first show
in seven weeks was a shortened set in the early evening. the sound
guy and mead had a little tiff. the sound guy was telling mead "how
gigs work." much like walker-texas ranger, mead doesn't take
no shit from no one. he was quick to quiet the aging, beer-bellied
sound guy. [thanks jmfd]

06.14.02 - benchwarmer's: manistee,
mi
set 1: giraffe calf, dr. rewind, i don't have one, raisins
and rubberbands, low (cracker), surrender (cheap trick), mind so much,
$.10, the, the national anthem (radiohead), travis ate my atari, whiskeydick
set 2: loopy, germany, sweet caroline ( neil diamond), what deaner
was talkin' about (ween), country house (blur), echo again, expiration
date, space oddity (david bowie), fade away, she don't use jelly (flaming
lips), soap/loser/where it's at (beck), sober (tool), in the sticks
set 3: doorsy intro, continuing story of buffalo bill (beatles),
e-life, house of the rising sun (animals), disco 2000 (pulp), big
me (foo fighters) scooby doo theme, genome project, baba o'riley (the
who), me and the sea, coldfeet
notes: this was the first of two 3 hour long shows in a
quaint sports bar. the staff was very accomodating and charge the
guys for about 1/4 of the beer they drank. there was a decent crowd
there, but the guys aren't exactly selling out arenas yet. the band
stayed with manager joe davis' parents, who didn't seem to mind having
a bunch of smelly guys in their house. dedicated fuzzkateer ed made
this trip with the band and after the show at the burger king drive-thru
he got to taste everything he drink that night for a second time as
he opened the van door and proceeded to projectile vomit. mead and
nate were yelling "rock & roll!" [thanks jmfd]

set 1:
set 2:
set 3: misty mountain hop silly intro, me and the sea, country
house (blur), echo agian, fade away, scooby doo theme, giraffe calf,
the bends (radiohead), coldfeet
notes: saturday, the band spent the day in the pool, playing
football and driving all of the other people out of both pools. night
#2 in manistee provided even less of a crowd at benchwarmer's. apparently
this tiny burg was not ready for quasi-space folk because the bar
was damn-near empty. "the guys" (two guys who really dug
it) stuck around for the whole show and even clapped. mead yelled
out "let's hear it for the guys!" in between songs. saturday
night the van got pulled over by the manistee cops, but luckily the
ever-sober nate was driving, and they were let off with a warning.

08.08.02 - shiawassee county fair: corunna, mi
set:
notes: well this sounded like a good idea-a hometown show
at the fair where all the country-folk go to inbreed and talk about
farm animals. the band playing in a big show tent on a ready-to-collapse
stage, with a shitty sound system. the real kicker was the showtime:
4pm on a thursday. there were some family members that got out of
work early to come sit in the wooden folding chair, as well as some
old folks, and some bored tractor repairmen. the band tried to make
the best of it, but it was hard to get inspired. their biggest accomplishment
this day was making a little girl hold her hands over her ears and
wince in pain.
09.19.02 - mac's bar: lansing, mi
other bands: blind shame
set: raisins and rubberbands, the
largest number, loopy, paranoid android (radiohead), in the sticks,
germany, the, travis ate my atari, race for the prize (flaming lips),
coldfeet, thick as thieves, me and the sea, whiskeydick
notes:
09.28.02 - the chicken shack: east lansing, mi
other bands: buddha's belly, the pusherz
set:
notes: t'was a fun party, the basement still smells really bad
tho. the first show by the band at the legendary chicken shack. the
bands played in the basement of the large house, but could be heard
in the backyard where a lot of kids stayed to avoid the $3 cover charge.
pretty large turnout, and good times by all.

10.17.02 - city park grill: petoskey,
mi
set:
notes: from joe davis: "i tried to book this place
in the summer. but, they finally got a hold of us for a late fall
show. if you've ever been to petoskey in the fall, you know that it's
like a ghost town. not a very fun show - very few people. but, a cool
restaurant/bar. plus, the fuzz got lots of free drinks & two hotel
rooms for the evening." last set was all covers, ,ranging from
the bends and buggin' to shook me all nite long. [thanks mead]

10.19.02 - the chicken shack: east lansing, mi
other bands: the transfer, ettison clio, bridge to canada,

set:
notes: coming soon
10.25.02 - common grounds coffee
house: east lansing, mi
other bands: the farewell drive
set: coldfeet, thick as thieves, travis ate my atari, germany,
paranoid android (radiohead), dr. rewind, loopy, the, genome projeect,
race for the prize (flaming lips), in the sticks, $.10, fade away/sonic.com,
me and the sea
notes: a cool venue in the basement of a dorm. there were
very few people. we expected a big turnout cuz the place is all ages.
but that didn't happen. the farewell drive is a bunch of pompous assholes.
they played their set and then took off. of course, they show back
up at the end to collect some money. if you ever get the chance to
check them out, don't do it unless it's to throw eggs. the fuzz played
a sub-par set. it just wasn't clicking. the people who run this thing
are very nice, but they have a creepy amount of "dorm energy".
dorm energy is the phenomenon you see exhibited in youngsters who
think the dorms are the tops. they're always running around and laughing.
weirdos. the performances of "dr. rewind" and "coldfeet"
from this date are included on the live release "nuckel sammitch".[thanks

set: coldfeet, dr. rewind, loopy, the, in the sticks, creep (radiohead)
(with rob from the pusherz), germany, walking with thee (clinic),
thick as thieves, travis ate my atari, raisins and rubberbands, whiskeydick,
me and the sea
notes: from fuzz manager joe davis: "in the halloween spirit,
the fuzz dressed as characters from super mario brothers for their
set. interestingly, neither of these bands has yet fulfilled their
end of the 'gig swap' bargain. it's called a 'gig SWAP' not a 'gig
give'."
11.08.02 - the elbow room: ypsilanti,
mi
other bands: loaded 44's
set: loopy, dr. rewind, travis ate my atari, in the sticks, the,

a little over a half hour .....and the other bands blew... "
11.09.02 - churchill's food & spirits:

other bands: bridge to canada, the pusherz
set: whiskeydick, travis ate my atari, germany, crystal lake (grandaddy),

set: i don't have one, dr. rewind, coldfeet, loopy, travis ate
my atari, thick as thieves, the, in the sticks, germany, raisins and
rubberbands, whiskeydick, me and the sea
notes: the fuzz went on second in front of a decent sized crowd
(at least for a wednesday). they proceeded to run through a pretty
standard setlist with a focused and tight sound. more notes soon.

other bands: joust, be nicholas be'
set: dr. rewind, in the sticks, loopy, germany, raisins and
rubberbands, thick as thieves, travis ate my atari, coldfeet, whiskeydick,
me and the sea
notes: another very good show. a lot of kiddies showed up to this
all ages coffeehouse. they give the bands drinks and they all took
advantage of that. ed had so much coffee that he got the hershey-squirts.
[thanks jmfd]
12.07.02 berkley front: berkley, mi
other bands: my cousin leonard
set: dr. rewind, coldfeet, travis ate my atari, germany, disco
2000 (pulp), the, in the sticks, i don't have one, raisins and rubberbands,
loopy, race for the prize (flaming lips), thick as thieves, whiskeydick,
me and the sea
notes: the berkley front was voted number 1 in oakland county
for best beer selection, and they don't disappoint. everyone commented
on how much beer there was to choose from. maybe not coincidentally
there were a lot of people at this show too. there were even a couple
hecklers, but after ms. pants confronted one there was no longer a
problem. the band gave one patron a presspack after he claimed he
would put the fuzz in a documentary about detroit bands, with the
likes of the von bondies and white stripes, but nothing ever came
of it. this was the same guy who claimed that the guys ripped of a
song because it sounded a lot like disco 200. mead would later say,
"turns out that isn't ours." [thanks jmfd, mead]
12.14.02 churchill's
food & spirits: flint, mi
other bands: the farewell drive, leper colony
set:
notes: once again, the farewell drive left immediately after their
set. the gig was booked before the first show the fuzz played with
the farewell drive, otherwise, there would have not been a second
time. mead on the farewell drive situation: "me and nate left
to eat while the farewell drive was playing to get even. the best
part was that they couldnt figure out the PA so they played with constant
feedback the whole time we were gone. . so they only had 2 songs that
sounded rite. . . to quote brodie bruce in mallrats, 'thats what u
get for fuckin with me' " leper colony was very cool though,
and used tv's to create static sounds thru their instruments. not
much to say about the actual fuzz show-pretty standard. [thanks jmfd,
mead]
