About Exploration. Exploration is how you find Planets and Starfalls. To explore with a fleet, it must have at least one explorer infinity. Under Exploration from the Main Menu, You will find System Scan and Starfall scan, this will give you an idea of good sites.. Exp Prob under the View Quadrants also gives exploration data for specific hexes. Once you have determined where you want to explore, pick either System Exploration or Starfall Exploration You will be prompted for the location, and the fleet to explore with. Once these are selected the program will determine if the exploration was succesful or not. Good exploration locations are determined by the exploration probability. This consists of two numbers, the number of systems, and the number of hex's the furthest planet is within. Planets greater than six hexes away are not counted. A succesful exploration occurs with a random 1-6 roll. If the furthest planet minus the number of systems within is greater than the die roll then then a system is found. Starfalls are similarly determined except that the Exp Prob for starfalls do not affect planets, and vice versa. The effect of these constraints are that planets and starfalls can be easily found in unpopulated areas but successive attempts at explorations in a limited area become increasingly difficult. Strategically, because of resource distribution and tech advancement considerations, it is best to fill a given quadrant with the maximum number of planets possible. These oppposed effects often become pivotal forces in game development. Note Each explorer in a given fleet gets one exploration, hence the more explorers you have in a fleet the greater the chance of finding something.
