From: "Bruce M. The land consists of "a diverse mix of oak-hickory woods, kettle wetlands, oak savannah and old fields. It will be called Sharon Hills Preserve and lies at the western end of the Sharon Short Hills." "Sharon Hills Preserve lacks specific trails, but already is available for public use for light recreation activities, such as hiking, skiing and bird-watching... No hunting or camping is permitted." It will be interesting to see what the diverse habitat here offers for birders. The map with the article shows Sharon Hills Preserve to be about seven miles northwest of Manchester. It is on Sharon Hollow Road (east side) about two miles north from where Pleasant Lake Road and Bethel Church Road both end at Sharon Hollow Road. The easiest way to get there from Ann Arbor is to take I-94 west to the Chelsea exit (M-52) and take M-52 south to Pleasant Lake Road. (Or take Ann Arbor-Saline Road south to Pleasant Lake Road and then head west.) Follow Pleasant Lake Road west from M-52 for about three miles to Sharon Hollow Road; turn right (north) and go about two miles. The article doesn't say whether the preserve is marked yet. [See David Brook's email below for location. BMB] If anyone is familiar with this property or checks it out, please report. But it's pretty easy to find, and you can park on Sharon Hollow Road. [snip] Enjoy - I drove out there Monday and it's very pretty - rolling hills and various trees, bushes and fields. Should be a great spot for birdwatching, I would think. The Preserve starts 1/2 mile north of Trolz and run 1/4 mile along the East Side of Sharon Hollow where Sharon Hollow is drifting 30 degrees east of south. The Preserve is 1/2 mile deep to the east. The Manchester Topo shows a fence line along the north boundary and a power line on the east boundary. Dave BIRDERS -- PLEASE BE CAREFUL NOT TO STRAY ONTO PRIVATE PROPERTY. BMB
