Robert H. Long Nature Park ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This beautiful 110-acre nature park is located at Berry Lake in Oakland County on the west side of M5, north of 14 Mile Rd. The park includes a lake, wetland areas, nature trails/pathways, nesting islands, and a covered bridge. This park was a cooperative project between the Charter Township of Commerce, the Commerce Downtown Development Authority (DDA), and a developer donation. This nature reserve is the home to the endangered Redside Dace fish. This park was dedicated on November 1, 1995 to former Township Supervisor Robert H. Long. He dedicated himself to preserving open space for the betterment of our community during his 30+ years in office. Berry Lake was dedicated to Wynn Berry, who was instrumental in securing the park and a variety of other sensitive natural areas in our community. Crushed limestone trails allow handicap accessibility through the park. There is a covered bridge that opens up the park to more trails on the other side of Berry Lake. A picnic pavilion provides shelter place for people to enjoy the wide variety of wildlife that thrives on the lake. While the adults enjoy the wildlife the children may enjoy the play-structure over looking the lake. There are grills and picnic tables throughout the park for everyone to enjoy a quiet lunch while getting away from the fast paced life we are all used to.
