From: "Bruce M. Bowman" To: birders@umich.edu Date: Fri, 14 May 2004 15:50:39 -0400 This morning I found three Black Terns at Pond Lily Lake. There are probably more than that. Last June 5 I had 12 there. Pond Lily Lake is in Jackson County just outside of Washtenaw County. To get there you can take I-94 to Clear Lake Road (Jackson County) and go north to Harvey Road, where you'll turn right (east). See below for the rest of the directions. Here are directions from a location familiar to many Washtenaw County birders--McLure & Loveland Roads. Take McLure to Loveland, turn south. Go to Green Road and turn right (west). Go a mile to Clear Lake Road and turn south. Go a mile to Harvey Road. Turn left (east). In maybe a third of a mile you'll come to Pond Lily Lake on your left. There's a small pulloff to the right just before you get to the lake. This is the only place you'll be able to get off the road in order to scan the lake. A scope will be helpful to see Sandhill Cranes on the back side of the lake, but binoculars are entirely adequate to watch the Black Terns.
