I birded there this morning for the first time and was quite impressed. I think this area would make a nice park. Do you know if the city has ever considered buying it? It's on North Maple directly across from Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. There's a sign there that reads PROPERTY PROPOSED FOR A CONDITIONAL USE Tax parcel 81-09-18-300-003 56 Acres Zone Recreation Conservation Conditional Use Request for Wireless Communications Facilities Public Hearing at Township Hall February 2, 1998 7:30 p.m. My wife says there has been stuff in the paper about this proposal, but she doesn't know what happened at the public hearing or what decision may have been reached. The beginning of the main trail is 50 feet north of the sign. If you'd like to go out and look it over sometime, drop me an Email or give me a call (994-5398). I'll go with you. One more thing... If you follow one of the trails far enough, you'll come to a tent where someone is or was living--way back in the thick cover. When I found it, I left immediately without investigating. It looks rather permanent. It's large and has a flue for a stove. Bruce BTW, I had Blue-winged Warbler there plus Rose-breasted Grosbeak (a pair), Baltimore Oriole, and a Wood Thrush. No Brewster's. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- From: GrayJudith Date sent: Mon, 11 May 1998 19:57:33 EDT To: wieland23@HotMail.com (Ben Wieland) Copies to: pgray@arborpartners.com, bbowman@umich.edu Subject: Re: "Brewster's Warbler" - revisited Dear Ben, Never mind the specific directions --- this evening I tried the spot at Maple Road and M14 directly across the road from the Jehovah's Witnesses church. I can't believe I've lived in this neighborhood so many years, passed by that corner literally thousands of times, and never took a walk there before. I didn't see your Brewster's warblers, but in only a half hour (7:00 - 7:30 pm) I did have a great look at a singing blue-winged warbler, as well as many yellow warblers, a couple of common yellowthroats, two warbling vireos, a rose-breasted grosbeak, and a very vocal catbird. Thanks for sharing your experience. Judy Gray
