Birding along the west end of Lake Erie (from north to south off I-275 
and I-75) 

GROSSE ILE

Take I-94 east to Telegraph (U.S. 12).  Go south on Telegraph several 
miles.  It merges into I-75.  Continue south on I-75 to Exit 32 
(Woodhaven) to Trenton and Grosse Ile.  You'll be going east on West 
Road.  Go a mile to Allen Road and turn right (south).  Go a mile and a 
half to Van Horn Road and turn left (east).  Continue for two or three 
miles to a "T" at Jefferson.  Do a jog to the left and then continue 
eastward, on Grosse Ile Parkway.  This will take you over a bridge 
crossing the river.  Continue to Meridian Road.  Turn left and fo down a 
block, and then turn right on Macomb.  Go to the end, find a place to 
park (try Nate's grocery store a block before the end of Macomb Road) 
and walk to the end of the road.

LUNA PIER

To get to Luna Pier go south on I-75 to Exit 6 (marked for Luna Pier). 
Turn left (east) and go all the way to the end of the road where you 
will have to turn left onto a one way road.  At this point, there is a 
parking area on the right where you should park.  Walk onto the berm and 
you will see the jetty.  Walk out to the end and scope the ducks to the 
north and east. 

ERIE POWER PLANT  Exit from I-75 onto Erie Rd., five miles north of Ohio
--go east to the end of Erie Rd., park, and walk to the beach

LOTUS RD.  Take I-75 south to Summit (two miles north of Ohio).  Turn 
right from offramp onto Summit (south); turn RIGHT on Sterns Rd. (west); 
turn left on Suder Rd. (south); turn right Lotus Rd. (west).  Park on 
the shoulder at the pond at the curve in the road.

ERIE MARSH PRESERVE (exit I-75 at Summit) (closed Sept. 1 to Dec. 15 for 
hunting) 

--Take I-75 south past Erie Rd for about 2 miles 
--Take the Summit Rd exit (exit 2)
--Go OVER I-75 on Summit to Brewer's Boat Livery (at the intersection
of Sterns Rd).  (We always drive along the canals before turning
around and heading for the preserve).
--Make a U-turn at Sterns Rd and head back north about 1/4 mile
to Bay Creek Rd (first road to the right); you'll get off at Bay Creek 
Rd. just before the onramp puts you back onto I-75.
--Take Bay Creek Rd about a mile north to Dean Rd 
--Turn east (right) onto Dean Rd and go 1 mile to the Erie Shooting
Club cottages, where you can park (near the barn).
--Hike the dikes!
