Dexter Mill Pond -- Dexter ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Note: The Dexter Mill pond is not near the Dexter Mill, which is on the north side of Dexter. Bruce The following description is from _The Birds of Washtenaw County, Michigan_. Dexter Mill Pond lies on the s.w. corner of Dexter and can best be viewed from the cemetery off Grand Street [or from various business parking lots off Grand, Broad, or Dexter-Chelsea Road]. Mill Creek runs through this marshy area, keeping an open water channel even in cold weather. The marsh areas and ponds attract ducks, geese, herons, and swallows with occasional nexting Sandhill Cranes. The trees in the cemetery collect warblers and kinglets in migration, while the willows at the water's edge often hold Palm Warblers in late April and early May. If the water levels are low, shorebirds can be found in shallow water or on any exposed mud. One of the two survey period records of White-rumped Sandpiper is from Dexter Mill Pond.
