Directions for Dolph Park: Dolph Park can be accessed from the parking lot on Wagner Rd. on the west or from Parklake Ave. on the east. Main entrance - The parking lot is on Wagner between Jackson and Liberty across from what used to be the Gelman Facility. From I-94 take the Jackson Rd. exit and proceed west to the second light, which is Wagner. Take a "Michigan left" (south) onto Wagner and go approximately 1/2 mile to the parking lot on the left. The parking lot is hidden from view by shrubs, but there's a big sign along the road. I haven't had any problems parking here, but you shouldn't leave valuables in sight in your vehicle. Parklake entrance - Parklake Ave. is off Jackson Rd. but can be reached only from the eastbound lanes since Jackson Rd. splits to go on either side of Weber's Restaurant. Again from I-94 take Jackson Rd. west. Turn left on Gralake Ave. immediately before you get to the Weber's parking lot. This is just before Jackson Rd. splits. After a couple of blocks on Gralake, turn right. Continue to the "T" at Parklake Ave. Turn left. Drive two or three blocks until you see one of the signs for Dolph Nature Area and park anywhere on the right-hand side of the road. Take a trail into the park. If you come from the west instead of the east, look for Parklake Rd. perhaps a third of a mile east of Wagner Rd. Turn right and park along the curb just past the lake and marsh. There are two main trails that enter the woods there. (The "waterthrush hotel" runs parallel to and next to the street and is bounded on its north and south ends by these two trails.) Directions for Saginaw Forest Saginaw Forest is just around the corner from Dolph and can be worth a visit during most seasons. There are several ways to access the trails through the forest. From the Dolph Park parking lot turn left (south) on Wagner to the first light which is Liberty. Turn right and go less than 1/4 mile to the gated entrance road on the right. Park in the area around the gate without blocking it. The shoulder here is posted close to the gate but I've parked here before and never had a problem. Follow the main road into the forest and wander off on any of the several trails. A somewhat better option is to park in the parking lots behind the businesses just east of the forest. I usually park in the lowest lot. Although these are private lots it shouldn't be a problem to park here during non-working hours (I often see dog walkers etc.). Walk west across the field to the edge of the woods. There is a trail head here which is fairly obvious. From here several loops through the woods can be done. Direction for the Strieter Rd. "Ponds" The fields off Strieter Rd have had a number of large temporary pools from March through May or later depending on precipitation. To reach this area take Wagner Rd. south from Jackson (see directions above) to the second flashing light which is Scio Church Rd. Turn right on Scio Church and proceed for several miles until you come to a church. The road is on the right just past the church. Turn right and proceed several hundred yards. You will see the pools on the right.
