Hwy 401 is just 2 km north of Comber, between there and Stoney Pt.; it's a fast route to take back to Windsor and Detroit. Comber, Ontario, has its center at the intersection of routes 77 and 46. One block south of that intersection is Elizabeth St. Turn east on Elizabeth; it ends at the Big-O office (lots of big coils of drainpipe). Parking is more restricted than in past years, but you'll find a place to leave your cars and can go through an opening in the fence, beside the locked gate, and walk 50 meters south to the wooded area. There is a very wet wooded area and 2 large ponds-- a hectare or so. The woods are quite good for warblers, Rusty Blackbirds and so forth. The ponds seem always to have peep, Solitaries, Yellow- legs and often something more unsual. To reach them you need to walk through the woods and around, or else go over another fence. The whole place is worth an hour or so in the afternoon. Then it's only a few minutes up to Stoney Point and Trembly Beach Conservation Area--which though good is rarely as rewarding. Black terns and Yellow-headed Blackbirds have been seen here other years. There's parking and a porta-john. Dick and Barb
