The particular property referenced is in northwest Washtenaw County, west of Chelsea. It's usually called the Cedar Lake Campground. To get there take I-94 to the Pierce Rd. exit (west of Chelsea). Go north about 1.5 miles. You'll see the entrance on your left. Park at the foot of the gated road that goes into it. Walk up the road (an eighth of a mile?) and wander among the cabins and conifers. Reg Baker and I had no luck there, but we next drove a short distance farther north and west to the Eddy Discovery Center on Bush Rd. There we looked down toward the lake from the platform near the bird feeders at the visitor's center and spotted a small flock of White-winged Crossbills. This was a couple of weeks ago. I have gone there twice to find the birds (my first attempt also mentioned in a previous post). You'll need to hang out and check the numerous pines for bird activity_they have been found in many different locations around the cabins. Good luck. It can be accessed off Pierce Rd. going north, on the left side, just before Bush Rd. Or it can be accessed from a side trail that goes off right near the end of the Bog Trail. It's a camping area with cabins used by different summer camp groups through-out the summer, but is really quiet the rest of the year. The Pierce Rd. entrance is usually blocked off, but you can park and walk in along a road for about 1/4 mile before getting to the main area. It's actually a pretty neat area in that it has some decent stands of large pine trees with lots of cones. Combined with this are several open areas so there are a lot of good places to view from. This place has been great for Pine Warblers and Siskins.
