Brighton State Recreation Area in southern Livingston County is nearly 5,000 acres in size. It has diverse terrain and a number of lakes. There are several miles of trails through oak forest. Thick hedgerows and open spaces blend on the uplands while grassy marshes, shrub marshes and dense swamp timber mark the lowlands. Brighton State Recreation Area is open for birding year round. A Michigan State Park Motor Vehicle Permit is required for entry. You may purchase an annual permit ($24, or $6 for seniors 65+) or day permit ($6) at the visitor's center.
