Syllabus

"Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems", Boyce and DiPrima

Material

Topics include first-order differential equations, higher-order linear differential equations with constant coefficients, series solutions, the Laplace transform, an introduction to linear algebra, linear systems, stability and -time permitting- non-linear systems.

Homework

Homework is important! There will be 10 problem sets, due mostly on Fridays (the first one is due January 18^th). You can turn in your assignments either in class or at my office by 2 PM on the due date. It is possible that not all assigned homework problems will be graded. NO LATE HOMEWORK!
Collaboration on the homework is fine, but everyone is responsible for writing up his/her own solutions.
The lowest homework score will be dropped.

First Midterm February 13^th during class room: G115 Angell Hall

Second Midterm March 26^th during class room: G127 Angell Hall

Final April 17^th 1.30–3.30 PM room: DENN 260

Grades: 20% First Midterm + 25% Second Midterm + 40% Final + 15% Homework
