Nor Gathers a Candle More

He falls into the water and swims.
He swims with all his might.
Suddenly the page turns
but where is the beach?
He swims he swims he swims.
But the water has no more shores boats
rafts rocks concourse comforts
no bird caught in its nest
no nyas falconry
The swimmer eats water.
He eats and eats and eats.
The water munches its freak.
The swimmer loses his height.
The swimmer loses his depth.
He loses his map of the world
his first and last round.
He goes down in the sound.
He dismisses the mound.
Nor gathers a candle more.
