Postdoctoral fellows are an integral part of the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology. Although their primary focus is training in the research laboratories of individual faculty members, the postdoctoral fellows contribute to other Departmental activities and often are key bridge builders through collaborative research projects. In addition to the career development opportunities in their mentor's lab, postdoctoral fellows are offered a variety of career enhancing programs through the Program in Biomedical Sciences (PIBS). Title: Inward Rectifier
Potassium Channels and Cardiac Excitability Subject etc: Open postdoctoral position Keywords: physiology; electrophysiology; cardiac potassium channels, Kir2 channels, IK1 Postdoctoral
Positions are available starting June 2008 to study the
molecular mechanisms of cardiac inward rectifier K+ channels (Kir2; IK1) function,
localization and their regulation during acute metabolic stress (hypoxia). Major approaches
include, but are not limited to, experimentation with isolated hearts from wild
type and transgenic mice expressing mutant Kir2 channels, patch-clamp
electrophysiology of single cardiomyocytes and cultured cells expressing cloned
Kir2 channels, work with various relevant fluorescent indicators and experiments
involving confocal microscopy. Experience with relevant electrophysiological
techniques and/or previous involvement in ion channel research is required and strong motivation to gain further expertise in this area is highly valued (appropriate education background is a
strength). Duration:
>= 2 years, with possible extension upon successful project development. Please
submit curriculum vitae, including names and addresses of three references, to: Dr. Anatoli Lopatin, University of Michigan Medical School, Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology, 1301 E Catherine St., Room 7812 Medical Science II, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-5622 Ph:
