Current research in the lab of Dr. Lopatin is focused on understanding the mechanisms of remodeling of cardiac t-tubules using molecular, genetic, electrophysiological and other approaches. Duties for this position include, but are not limited to, general lab management (ordering, maintaining lab supplies, handling chemical and other databases etc), work with mice (breeding, tagging, genotyping, experiments involving surgical procedures etc) and cell cultures (e.g. DNA transfections etc), preparation of isolated cardiomyocytes, basic molecular biological work (PCR, DNA and protein gel analysis, mutagenesis etc).

Requirements: Bachelor degree in biological or other relevant field of science with strong relevant educational background and experience of working in a research lab environment. Willingness to learn new technologies and ability to apply academic knowledge to master them is highly valued. Basic computer skills and familiarity with PC (Windows) are required. Informal inquiries about this potential position can be directed to Dr. Anatoli Lopatin at alopatin@umich.edu.

    Graduate Students

The lab is open for graduate students willing to become experts in cellular cardiac electrophysiology. The central current theme is the regulation of cardiac t-tubules (the place in ventricular myocytes where most of excitation-contraction coupling occur) by various types of stress. In particular, the students will learn and apply the most advanced techniques in membrane physiology such as Patch-Clamp Electrophysiology and Super Resolution Scanning Ion Conductance Microscopy (SICM).
