Here she comes
With a bone in her teeth
That's sailor talk
And ship watchers' lingo
For a broad beamed laker
Pushing hard
Against the five knots current
Churning foam
Spreading wake
In Detroit's fast flowing strait
Her reputation known
Even on the Mississippi levees
Where the aficionados gather
At Crescent City
And laugh with mirth
To see a clumsy barge in tow
Do what they call
The Detroit shuffle
No comic though, the laker
She's long and strong
And heads upstream throbbing
Filled with sailors' lore
From "there she blows"
To "here she comes"
To "here she comes"
Keeping boat watchers
Mindful of the sea
To speak the lingo
So mindful of her glory
