Questions about administrative stuff for Econ 340, Section 100, Fall 2019 Dec 11: I have a question that for the initialisms and acronyms, do we just have to know what it stands for or do we need to define that? Since I have realized that for the last exam, we do not have to write the definition of it. Ans: Either/or.  If you have what it stands for correctly, you don't need the explanation.  The instruction will be, as on the second midterm: "What do the following acronyms stand for in international economics, and/or what dothey mean?  (You need only answer eitherwhat they stand for or what they mean, but if you give both and get eithercorrect, you’ll get full credit.)""     Dec 4: Just to clarify we can skip slides 36-68 for the exam from lecture 18? Ans: The ones I skipped in the lecture?  Yes.Alan Dec 4: I know that there is going to be 35 multiple choice on the final, but do you know how many short answer/free response there will be? A: I don't see how this helps you, but since the last two exams had 6 on one and 7 on the other, this one will probably also have 6  or 7.  Much depends on the length of each question that I come up with. Oct 14: I am confused about the range of vocabulary we need to work on. Do we need to memorize the vocabularies on the study questions or all the vocabularies summarized at the end of each chapter on the textbook?  Ans: I would suggest that you pay more attention to the terms in the study questions, since I draw directly on those for my exams.  I sometimes ask about a term from the textbook, but much less often.  Sep 22: My page numbers don’t align with the ones on the course website. I don’t think I have the wrong book but I wanted to double check with you now versus later, the book I have is...Let me know if you this looks right or wrong. Ans: I see from the picture you sent that what you have is called the "Global Edition." I don't know what that means, but I doubt it is the version that I have, which is just the normal 7th edition. I suppose that explains why the page numbers don't match. May I ask where you bought it? What I ordered to be available from the bookstores did not say anything about a global edition, so if they ordered the wrong thing, I'll need to know about it. I presume that what you have must be pretty similar to the one I have, so you should be fine as long as you can figure out what to read. I can't help with that, since I don't have it. Sep 14: I noticed that you sent some reading files on Canvas. Are these the required materials we need to read to discuss in class? Ans: I'm not sure that I understand your question. The required readings for Econ 340 are all listed on the syllabus, with links to all other than the textbook. Many of those links take you to the files that I've posted in Canvas, and indeed I think all of the files in that portion of Canvas are in fact required reading for Econ 340 at some point. But you don't need to access them from Canvas unless you want to, since the links in the syllabus should take you to all readings, including the many that are not in Canvas but simply available online. I hope that's clear. Sep 14: I am a bit confused with regards to the readings that are meant to be assigned for this term. On the website, when I click on "News : Assigned", the page only shows me the readings you had assigned last fall term.If you could clarify where I can find the assigned news articles it would be greatly appreciated. I already got the textbook and am reviewing the material. Ans: I haven't assigned any yet. I will assign several news items on this coming Monday from the news this week, and I'll repeat doing that each week. Sep 9: I took a look at the online website for the class but did not find a syllabus or somewhere that I could find if there are assignments posted. Ans: I'm not sure how you could have missed the syllabus, which is at the top center of the course website. Sep 6: Is the readings under September 9 the readings you want completed before the ninth or are they readings not assigned until the ninth. Ans: Readings should be completed before the class for which they are assigned.
