Class 15: Who really are your co-opetitors in the face of a technological change?

In pursuing an innovation, a firm must not lose track of the fact that it is not the only one interested in profiting from it. Its co-opetitors are. The question is, who really are these co-opetitors? This question is explored in Chapter 9. The Pixar case provides a good example of the likely sources of co-opetitors. Movie making now requires more than just creativity. It requires an integration of technological and creative skills. Technological change is also altering the nature and owners of complementary assets.
