The race format was interesting, since it was all indoors on stationary, computer-controlled trainers. Everyone rode the same course with the same resistance, and a projector displayed lots of real-time data about the race, including place, time, average and current speed, and average and current power. There were seven total heats, run on the hour from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Matt and I chose the first heat of the day.
Once the race started, it was all-out for almost 16 minutes, up and down hills up to 3% grade. I ended up putting out an average of 307 watts for the race - not world-class caliber, but not too shabby - and I won both my heat (by 7 seconds) and the entire race (by 4 seconds). I can't complain about having decent legs after a tough week, and that bodes well for my cycling, which has until this point been less than spectacular this year.
