Meet Ari
 |
Listen Without Borders is run by Arivalagan Gajraj. Ari grew up in a family of musicians in Bangalore, India. His mother, a piano teacher was his first music teacher. His grandfather, owned a music store and made pianos that have found their way all over the world. Ari trained as a classical pianist but at college his interests (much to the horror of his mother) turned to contemporary music and improvisation. He went to school at Michigan State University and received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 1999. Following that, Ari worked at the University of Michigan doing post-doctoral research in Biophysics working on projects for the National Institutes of Health (NIH)and NASA. Ari is a published author with articles in many scientific journals but music was always a large and important part of his life.
Throughout his years in Michigan, Ari was active in the local music scene, playing in a number of bands (reggae, funk-jazz, alternative, top 40, world music, Indian etc) and running a popular semi-pro project studio. He started on a Tascam 4-track and slowly honed his craft. After being certified by the Electronic Music Studio at the University of Michigan in 2004, Ari immigrated to Canada and set-up Listen Without Borders in 2006.
Ari is a multi-instrumentalist: equally comfortable playing keyboards, guitar, or bass. An expert with computers and music technology, Ari has the technical wizardry to make your music sparkle. A songwriter and composer himself, Ari brings a hunger, clinical focus and a deep passion to his work. |
