Undergraduate Access to Angell Hall Facilities
Department of Astronomy

The Department of Astronomy has the following facilities in the Angell Hall building for undergraduate education.

  1. Observatory (5th floor)
  2. Planetarium (3rd floor)

Key or MCard access to these facilities can be granted to undergraduate students who meet all the following criteria:

  1. Full time undergraduate.
  2. Declared Astronomy Concentrator or Minor, on record in the Astronomy Department.
  3. Passed Astronomy 361 (Observational Astronomy).
  4. Member of the Student Astronomical Society, with a demonstrated record of participation in outreach activities (open houses, lectures, etc).
  5. Successfully completes any training course for new planetarium and telescope operators
  6. Agrees to abide by all rules the Department may impose.

Access is lost once the student graduates, or leaves the University of Michigan.  Access privileges may be revoked if the rules are not followed.

Access for special projects may be granted on a case-by-case basis for the duration of the project.  An Astronomy faculty member will take responsibility for each student granted such special access.

The Chair of the Astronomy Department can make exceptions to the above in special circumstances.
