Duration: seven weeks

Assigned October 20 - due December 13, 2004

Ladies and Gentlemen:
I am not yet sure what parameters I will place on this second and final project. I want to give you a bit more freedom with format and media (including computer) than you had with your first project. Alternatively, you may choose to stick with the same tools to develop your skills further with those.

Very generally, I will say that your project should be equivalent in ambition (time spent/skills developed) to about a six-page story of the type you just finished.

Here a few preliminary ideas for projects:

A MINI-COMIC LIBRARY:
6 individual stories (may be related by theme) bound into little books, much like the books we put together on the first day of class (except that the story and art will be fully developed!) You may make one-of-a-kind books, or something easily reproducible. You may want to create a box or sleeve that holds your books. Presentation is important. Color or black & white.

A FOTONOVELA:
For a project of this sort, think of making a story of 12-18 pages. Decide on the size of the final piece. If it is to be in book form, decide on material for front and back covers. Color or B&W? How to treat dialogue? Will you need actors? These are some of the many questions to consider.

A SIX-PAGE STORY
A few possible themes: MURDER. LUST. PETS. LIES. GOD. ESCAPE. Whatever.

A SERIES OF ETCHINGS OR PAINTINGS (see Charlotte Salomon or old church paintings or "Happy End-" ask me.)

AN INTERACTIVE COMIC (a simple example) or STORY (various examples)

DO A COMIC WITH ANOTHER PERSON (See DIRTY LAUNDRY by Aline Kominsky and Robert Crumb- ask me.)

NOTE: If there are enough of you working in similar media, you may want to group together and decide the parameters of your project as a group (size, final form, theme if there is to be a common theme.) Then, as we did with our last project, you could create a book.
