Professor Berman is engaged in theoretical research related to the interaction of radiation with matter. Of particular interest is the identification of atom-field configurations which can result in qualitatively new phenomena. Among topics he is currently investigating are microscopic theories of atom-field interactions in dielectrics, spin squeezing, storing quantum information, light scattering, collective emission, and pedagogical problems in atom-field interactions. Professor Berman is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the Optical Society of America. He is coauthor of a textbook, Principles of Laser Spectroscopy and Quantum Optics, published by Princeton University Press in 2010. He is author of a textbook, Introductory Quantum Mechanics: A Traditional Approach Emphasizing Connections with Classical Physics, published by Springer-Verlag in 2017. |
