Synopsis:
Mrs. Karen Stone, an older woman and former actress, decides to take a European vacation with her husband, Tom.  Sadly, the man, totally adoring Karen, suffers from ill health, and dies on an airplane en route to Italy.  She decides to go on to Rome, and meets Meg, an old friend.  After Karen tells her friend she misses having a man in her life, Meg has her meet Contessa Magda, a procurer of young men for lonely, wealthy ladies, or anyone having enough money.  She has just the man for Karen, Paolo.  He listens to what Contessa Magda tells him to do.  Paolo and Karen become intimate companions.  In return for his attention, she buys him anything expensive.  This bothers Contessa Magda, since she would prefer his being paid in cash, so that she could take a percentage from the sum.  To cast a shadow on his paid relationship with Karen, Contessa introduces Barbara Bingham, a young movie star to Paolo.  Barbara and Karen confront one another, when the latter learns about the younger woman and Paolo.  During Karen’s stay in Rome, she has been followed by a young man.  Though Karen asks Paolo to remain with her, he rejects her, because she has so blatantly thrown herself at him.  To prove that he and Barbara are having an affair, she follows them to a hotel and confirms what she suspected.  On her way home, the young man follows her once again.  On her arrival, she proceeds to find the key to her room.  Wrapping it in a handkerchief and tossing the object to the young man, Karen is unsure of what he wants; yet the movie viewer has seen enough to believe the man has a murderous intent.  The young man walks into Karen’s room; she sits with a lit cigarette, as his dark silhouette fills the screen.
