Synopsis:
Julius Caesar visits Alexandria, Egypt, and is accompanied by a small army brought along to stop a civil war in the mysterious country.  After first meeting Cleopatra, she amuses Caesar; he is drawn to the twenty-four year old woman, whom he first sees in 45 B.C.  Despite almost being a queen of Egypt, Cleopatra must listen to the dictates of her nurse Ftatateeta; worse still, she is further dominated by her chief minister, Pothinus.  To prepare her to become queen of Egypt, Caesar educates Cleopatra, so that she may one day take power and be responsible for whatever she does.  In the midst of his tutelage, the Egyptian fleet has been set on fire, the flames spreading to the great library of Alexandria.  After Theodotus, a known Egyptian intellectual, asks Caesar that the library be spared, he gives the mad permission to use the Egyptian army to stop the conflagration.  With these troops out of the way, Caesar and his right arm Rufio head for the lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.  Coming along is a handsome Sicilian named Apollodorus who has brought with him a very valuable rug, in which Cleopatra has been wrapped inside and will be presented to Caesar as a gift.  Ultimately, Cleopatra’s enemies are vanquished; Caesar must defeat her brother Ptolemy.  Ptolemy, not only Cleopatra’s brother is also her husband.  Caesar conquers the boy king, and Cleopatra rids herself of her enemy, Pothinus, by having Ftatateeta commit the murder. Ftatateeta, in turn, becomes a murder victim at the hands of Rufio, since he fears the woman poses a threat to Caesar.  Having Cleopatra safely on the throne and with Egypt finally at peace, he leaves and will soon send Antony, his lieutenant, to come and see her.  However, Caesar will soon fall victim to the daggers of assassins.
